Match Report: Yeovil Town v Torquay United

Yeovil Town were defeated by Torquay United for the second time in a week this afternoon at Huish Park. Jordan Barnett gave Yeovil the lead just after the hour mark with a thunderous strike from 35 yards but Connor Lemonheigh-Evans levelled the scores just 9 minutes later before Dan Holman fired home the winner one minute from time.

Darren Sarll made four changes to the side that was beaten 3-0 by Torquay United last weekend. Grant Smith and Dan Moss were suspended while Luke Wilkinson was dropped from the side and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton dropped to the bench. New loan signing Dillon Barnes took his place between the sticks while Jack Robinson, Tom Knowles and Jordan Barnett regained their starting places.

Yeovil lined up in their usual 4-3-3 formation with Morgan Williams, Max Hunt, Josh Staunton and Jack Robinson in front of Dillon Barnes. Dale Gorman, Matt Worthington and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Tom Knowles, Adi Yussuf and Charlie Wakefield lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Joe Quigley and Reuben Reid.

The first half was very much like the first half of the reverse fixture on Boxing Day whereby there were few chances for either side.

Yeovil won their first corner on 7 minutes which was taken short but Torquay were able to defend with ease.

Four minutes later Yeovil won another corner which was crossed to the center of the box but the ball was headed over.

Yeovil's best chance came on 21 minutes as Tom Knowles worked his way to the edge of the box and fired at goal but his effort was just wide of the target.

The remainder of the half was fairly un-eventful with both sides struggling to create chances.

Yeovil won a corner on 32 minutes which was crossed to the far post. The Torquay keeper spilled the cross but a foul was given.

Torquay made final substitution on 70 minutes as Dean Moxey was replaced by Dan Holman.

On 73 minutes Yeovil won a free kick 40 yards from goal and rather than playing the ball out wide Yeovil attempted to shoot but the ball hit the wall and Torquay were able to break away. Dillon Barnes made a fantastic save to deny Sinclair Armstrong one-on-one and the ball went out for a corner.

The corner was crossed to the far post and Dillon Barnes wasn't able to gather the ball and Torquay scored straight from the corner kick to make it 1-1.

The final 10 minutes saw Yeovil applying most of the pressure and it looked as though Yeovil were the more likely to score the next goal.

On 83 minutes Yeovil made their final substitution as Morgan Williams was replaced by Reuben Reid.

Yeovil won a few corners as the game drew to a close but they weren't able to capitalise on them.

With just one minute to go Torquay United scored the winner as Dan Homan's shot across goal nestled into the bottom corner.

5 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil tasted defeat in their first fixture of 2022.
