Match Report: Wrexham v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town's losing streak continued at Huish Park this afternoon as Wrexham came from behind to defeat The Glovers 2-1. Tom Knowles but Yeovil ahead after 14 minutes but Wrexham drew the game level on the hour mark through Paul Mullin before an own goal by Morgan Williams ten minutes from time gave the away side the points.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that lost to Needham Market last weekend. Tom Knowles, Mark Little and Charlie Wakefield all regained their places in the starting XI as Max Hunt was out with an injury and Reuben Reid and Adi Yussuf dropped to the bench.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Mark Little, Josh Staunton, Morgan Williams and Jack Robinson in front of Grant Smith. Dale Gorman, Matt Worthington and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Charlie Wakefield and Tom Knowles lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Reuben Reid, Alex Bradley, Adi Yussuf and Toby Stephens.

Yeovil kicked off towards the away terrace.

The first half was very positive for Yeovil as we were creating numerous chances and looked the much better side.

The first corner of the came went Wrexham's way after 11 minutes which was crossed into the center of the box but they gave away a foul.

Yeovil's excellent start to the game was rewarded after 14 minutes as Tom Knowles fired Yeovil in front from a narrow angle and his shot beat Rob Lainton at the near post.

Yeovil continued to press Wrexham and were putting them under pressure but they were quite wasteful in front of goal and didn't make the most of their chances.

On 38 minutes Yeovil wasted a golden chance to go 2-0 up. Rob Lainton's poor clearance was intercepted by Matt Worthington who laid the ball off to Charlie Wakefield who had most of the goal to aim at from close range but he scuffed his shot and the chance had gone.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Wrexham

Wrexham made their first substitution at half time as Kwame Thomas was replaced by Jordan Ponticelli.

Wrexham put in a much better shift in the second half and were making more of a game of it.

Yeovil won a corner on 50 minutes which was crossed to the far post but a foul was given away.

Just before the hour mark Wrexham drew the game level as Paul Mullin unleashed a curling shot from distance that curled into the top corner.

On 66 minutes Wrexham made their second and last substitution of the game as Bryce Hosannah was replaced by Harry Linnon.

Wrexham had the momentum in the second half and looked the team more likely to score the next goal. Yeovil were playing some decent football but creating goal scoring opportunities were now few and far between.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 75 minutes as Josh Staunton was replaced by Alex Bradley.

With 12 minutes left to play Wrexham took the lead as Morgan Williams turned the ball into his own net from close range while attempting to block a low cross across goal.

Yeovil made their second substitution on 83 minutes as Matt Worthington was replaced by Adi Yussuf and three minutes later the final substitution was made as Jordan Barnett was replaced by Reuben Reid.

Six minutes of time was added on at the end and despite a late push from Yeovil they weren't able to find the equalising goal.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-2 Wrexham

It was a much better performance from Yeovil today and gives us some confidence going into the next few matches. What let us down today was being quite wasteful in front of goal - especially in the first half where we were creating a lot of chances and could have easily gone in at half time with a larger advantage.

Yeovil's season continues next Saturday afternoon as we make the short trip to Woking. Kick off is at 3:00PM.
