Match Report: Yeovil Town v Weymouth

Yeovil Town were held to a 1-1 draw with local rivals Weymouth at Huish Park yesterday evening. Sean Shields put the away side ahead after just four minutes but Yeovil equalised early in the second half thanks to an Adi Yussuf shot that was deflected into the back of the net by Tyler Cordner. Yeovil pushed for the winner late on but they weren't able to find the winning goal.

Darren Sarll made two enforced changes to the side that beat Woking at the weekend. Mark Little and Tom Knowles were both suspended and so Adi Yussuf and Jack Robinson took their places.

Yeovil lined up in their usual 4-3-3 formation with Morgan Williams, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Barclay and Jack Robinson in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Dale Gorman and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Charlie Wakefield and Adi Yussuf lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Lawson D'Ath, Toby Stephens and Rueben Reid.

Weymouth kicked off towards the home terrace.

The first half was woeful for Yeovil and they fell behind with just four minutes on the clock. A defensive mistake allowed Weymouth to put a low cross into the box and Sean Shields ran onto the ball unmarked and slammed the ball past Grant Smith.

Yeovil continued to struggle and were looking very tired and often struggling to get up field.

Yeovil won a couple of corners in the opening 10 minutes but on both occasions they didn't trouble the Weymouth defence.

It took Yeovil until the 21st minute to get their first effort on goal as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton found Charlie Wakefield on the edge of the box and his shot had to be pushed over the bar for a corner. The corner had to be pushed over the bar for another corner from the right hand side but this time it was easily cleared.

Weymouth were still looking the stronger of the two teams as the half progressed and won a couple of corners themselves on the half hour mark but each time Yeovil were able to deal with them.

As half time approached Weymouth won a free kick 25 yards from goal. Tyler Cordner stepped up but his shot was just wide of the target.

3 minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and Yeovil went in deservedly behind at the break.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Weymouth

Yeovil made their first substitution at half time as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Reuben Reid.

Yeovil put in a much improved performance in the second half and were finally starting to show their ability.

Just 7 minutes after the restart the game was level again as a shot from Adi Yussuf took a deflection off Tyler Corner and found it's way into the back of the net.

Yeovil survived a scare on the hour mark as Grant Smith did well to keep out Tom Bearwish's effort from close range as the Yeovil defence failed to clear a cross.

On 67 minutes Yeovil made their second substitution as Matt Worthington was replaced by Lawson D'Ath.

Weymouth made their first substitution on 74 minutes as Josh McQuoid was replaced by Akheem Rose.

In the final 10 minutes it was Yeovil who looked the side who were more likely to take the lead but they weren't able to carve out any decent goalscoring opportunities.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 83 minutes as Jordan Barnett was replaced by Alex Bradley.

Three minutes later Weymouth made their second substitution as Sean Shields was replaced by Tom Blair.

4 minutes of time was added on at the end of the game and Yeovil were pushing hard for the winner. Weymouth made their final substitution by replacing Manasse Mampala with Jordan Greenidge and shortly afterwards they were reduced to 10 men as Omar Mussa picked up his second yellow card of the game.

Right at the death Adi Yussuf was presented with a good opportunity to win the game but he was unable to score and the points were shared.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Weymouth

A draw was probably the fairest result on reflection of play. Weymouth were the much better side in the first half but Yeovil came back at them in the second but couldn't snatch all three points. It was great to see Lawson D'Ath back on the pitch as well. He will certainly be a good addition to our squad going forward.

Yeovil's season continues on Saturday afternoon as Solihull Moors visit Huish Park. Kick off is at 3:00PM.
