Match Report: Chesterfield v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat at Chesterfield yesterday evening in front of the BT Sport cameras. James Kellerman's goal just before half time was enough to give the home side the points in a game that lacked clear cut chances for either side.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that was held to a 1-1 draw with Maidenhead in mid-week. Lawson D'Ath and Alex Bradley dropped to to the bench as Jordan Barnett and Matt Worthington took their places while Olufela Olomola was out through injury so Adi Yussuf returned to the starting XI.

Yeovil lined up a 4-3-3 formation with Mark Little, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Barclay and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Josh Staunton and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Charlie Wakefield, Adi Yussuf and Tom Knowles lead the attack.

On the bench was Reuben Reid, Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Lawson D'Ath.

Chesterfield kicked off towards the away end.

Yeovil were the slightly better side in the first half but as has been our main issue this season - chances were hard to come by.

The opening fifteen minutes saw Yeovil playing some neat football. The first real chance for Yeovil came from a free kick which was crossed to the back post by Jordan Barnett and met by Luke Wilkinson but his header was well saved by Scott Loach and out for a corner but it was defended with ease.

No further chances came for either side until the 44th minute when Tom Knowles unleashed a cracking strike that struck the underside of the crossbar and bounced away.

1 minute of added time was given and Chesterfield took the lead after Yeovil failed to clear a throw in. The ball came to Jim Kellerman on the edge of the box and he had time to control the ball and his curling strike beat Grant Smith to give the home side an undeserved lead at the break.

Half Time: Chesterfield 0-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil struggled in the second half as they weren't able to play with the same fluidity as they did in the first and Chesterfield were looking very comfortable despite only holding a 1-0 advantage.

Yeovil's only chance of the second half came on 56 minutes after they broke away from a Chesterfield corner and won a free kick 25 yards from goal but Luke Wilkinson's effort was wide of the target.

Yeovil and Chesterfield made their first substitutions on 67 minutes as Matt Worthington was replaced by Lawson D'Ath for Yeovil while Joe Quigley was replaced by Tom Denton for Chesterfield.

The final 20 minutes were a very tame affair with neither side looking threatening. Chesterfield had more of the ball but Grant Smith had very little to do as the home side weren't putting much pressure on the Yeovil goal.

Yeovil made their second substitution on 77 minutes as Jordan Barnett was replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Five minutes later Adi Yussuf was replaced by Reuben Reid in an attempt to grab something from the game.

With two minutes remaining Chesterfield made their second and last substitution as Akwasi Asante was replaced by Saidou Khan.

Four minutes of time was added on but they passed without incident and Yeovil returned to Somerset empty handed but not outplayed by their opponents.

Full Time: Chesterfield 1-0 Yeovil Town

Once again our lack of an attacking threat was our let down. We weren't outplayed by Chesterfield but creating chances is difficult for us at the moment and without a prolific striker we are finding goals hard to come by.

Yeovil's season continues on Saturday afternoon as they travel to face Notts County. Kick off is at3:00PM.
