Match Report: Yeovil Town v Grimsby Town

Yeovil Town's poor form continued at Huish Park today as they were beaten 2-0 by Grimsby Town to take their winless run up to 9 games. Sean Scannell put the away side ahead on 9 minutes as his shot went through the legs of Grant Smith and Emmanuel Dieseruvwe doubled the advantage on 57 minutes from a corner. Yeovil could muster no response and once again their lack of an attacking threat was there to see.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that lost 3-0 to Dagenham & Redbridge in midweek. Jordan Barnett, Tom Knowles and Alex Bradley all dropped to the bench as Matt Worthington, Lawson D'Ath and Mark Little regained their starting places.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Mark Little, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Barclay and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Josh Staunton, Dale Gorman, Lawson D'Ath and Matt Worthington made up the midfield while Charlie Wakefield and Olufela Olomola lead the attack.

On the bench was Jordan Barnett, Reuben Reid, Tom Knowles, Alex Bradley and Adi Yussuf.

Grimsby kicked off towards the home terrace.

Yeovil struggled to get going in the game and they fell behind on 9 minutes. A defensive mistake allowed Sean Scannell to carve out an opportunity to shoot which went straight at Grant Smith but the ball went in-between his legs and trickled over the line.

Grimsby continued to be the side in control and had a penalty appeal waved away as Jon McAtee broke through 1 on 1 and was brought down in the box. The referee looked like he was going to give the penalty but appeared to change his mind and no penalty was awarded.

The away side thought they had doubled their advantage on 33 minutes as another piece of poor defending allowed Michee Efete to shoot at the near post but his effort was a whisker wide of the post.

One minute later another bit of poor defending almost gifted Grimsby a goal as tame cross across the box was not dealt with and Harry Clifton's effort was blocked by Grant Smith.

The closest Yeovil came to getting a goal in the game came on 40 minutes as Ben Barclay's header hit the outside of the post and away for a goal kick.

2 minutes of time was added on and the half finished with the away side deservedly ahead.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Grimsby Town

Most of the second half was a non-event as Yeovil just couldn't spark into life.

The game was effectively won on 58 minutes as Grimsby doubled the advantage from a corner kick and Emmanuel Dieseruvwe volleyed the ball home from close range.

Yeovil made a double substitution on 62 minutes as Dale Gorman and Lawson D'Ath were replaced by Tom Knowles and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Six minutes later Luke Wilkinson had to go off as he picked up an injury and was replaced by Jordan Barnett.

There really wasn't much more to report for the remainder of the game and after the 5 minutes of added time was played the away side could make the long trip home with all three points.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 0-2 Grimsby Town

It was a better game than the one we witnessed on Tuesday night but even so it was still dull and uninspiring. The rest of the season is going to trickle by without much excitement at the moment as performances are poor and with nothing to play for it's just going to be a question of what position we will finish the season in.

Yeovil's season continues on Saturday afternoon as we travel to face Dover Athletic at The Crabble. Kick off is at3:00PM.
