Darren Sarll made four changes to the side that was beaten 2-0 by Grimsby last weekend. Grant Smith was suffering from a groin injury and was replaced by returning loan keeper Ted Cann. Elsewhere Jordan Barnett, Tom Knowles and Adi Yussuf returned to the starting lineup as Luke Wilkinson was rested and Lawson D'Ath and Olufela Olomola dropped to the bench.
Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Mark Little, Josh Staunton, Ben Barclay and Morgan Williams in front of Ted Cann. Tom Knowles, Matt Worthington, Dale Gorman and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Charlie Wakefield and Adi Yussuf lead the attack.
On the bench was Alex Bradley, Lawson D'Ath, Olufela Olomola, Reuben Reid and Josh Neufville.
Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.
The opening 15 minutes or so were fairly quiet with neither side threatening. Alfie Pavey tested Ted Cann on 11 minutes but a comfortable save was made to push the ball wide for a corner but it was wasted.
With 19 minutes gone Yeovil took the lead as a good free kick from Jordan Barnett found Ben Barclay who's effort beat Adam Parkes to put Town 1 up.
The game continued to be a tame affair but Yeovil had an excellent opportunity to double the lead on 33 minutes. Tom Knowles did well on the right hand side and managed to put in a low cross across the six yard box but the onrushing Charlie Wakefield couldn't make connection and the chance had gone.
The rest of the half passed without incident and Yeovil went in with a slim advantage at the break.
Half Time: Dover Athletic 0-1 Yeovil Town
Dover made their first substitution at half time as Djair Parfitt-Williams was replaced by Koby Arthur.
The home side looked the brighter of the two teams in the opening exchanges of the second half but they weren't able to put Yeovil under much pressure.
On 57 minutes Yeovil were awarded a free kick just outside the box as Tom Knowles was fouled by Danny Collinge. Dale Gorman stepped up to take it and his shot curled into the top corner to put Yeovil 2-0 ahead.
Yeovil now had a comfortable advantage but they couldn't afford to get complacent and they survived a scare on 68 minutes as a long ball up front was chased down by Michael Gyasi and rolled the ball past the onrushing Ted Cann and into the net but the offside flag meant the goal didn't stand.
Yeovil made their first substitution on 74 minutes as Charlie Wakefield was replaced by Josh Neufville who returned to the club on Friday on loan.
Shortly afterwards Dover made their second and final substitution as Arjanit Krasniqi was replaced by Kieron Agbebi.
The final 10 minutes were a tame affair. The game was all but won as Yeovil just needed to see the game out.
4 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil could celebrate a much needed win.
Full Time: Dover Athletic 0-2 Yeovil Town
The defeat for Dover has now confirmed their relegation to the National League South. Not that it was in any doubt anyway but it is now mathematically impossible for them to survive. Although the win can be seen as one that we shouldn't get too excited about it can hopefully give the players a confidence boost going into the game against Bromley on Tuesday. You can only beat what's put in front of you and the managed to do just that.
Yeovil's season continues on Tuesday evening as Bromley are the visitors to Huish Park. Kick off is at 7:45PM
