Match Report - Woking v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town slipped to a disappointing 1-0 defeat at the Kingfield Stadium this afternoon. A goal from former Yeovil Town player Shaun Donnellan in the first half was enough to give Woking the three points.

Darren Sarll made two changes to the side that drew with Hartlepool last weekend - Courtney Duffus returned to the starting line-up and replaced new signing Marc Richards while Jimmy Smith replaced Matt Worthington.

The game started off very slowly for both sides with neither side being able to keep up any sustained pressure on the opposition goal. Only half chances came and went in the opening 20 minutes as it appeared that neither Woking or Yeovil were playing anywhere near at their best.

Despite the slow start to the game it was Woking who took the lead on 21 minutes. A Woking attack was not dealt with by the Yeovil defence and Shaun Donnellan was able to curl the ball past Ted Cann into the bottom corner to give the home side a 1-0 advantage.

The remainder of the half was played out like the opening 20 minutes - very limited chances for both sides and not much passing football on show that Yeovil like to play. It was clear to see that Yeovil were struggling to get going and to go in at half time only 1-0 down was almost seen as a positive as we were still in the game.

Half Time - Woking 1-0 Yeovil Town

The second half started off with an early scare for Yeovil as a good Woking move was almost rewarded with a goal however it wouldn't have mattered anyway as it was flagged for offside.

Yeovil finally managed to get a foothold into the game after this as they were beginning to put pressure on the Woking goal but they couldn't muster any real opportunities to draw the match level.

As the second half wore on Yeovil were beginning to slip back to how they were in the first half - giving the ball away easily and often resorting to going direct which was almost always snuffed out by the opposition.

Despite Yeovil not being at their best Woking weren't able to punish us even more and 1-0 was looking to be the most likely outcome of the game.

5 minutes of time was added on but this passed without drama and Yeovil were consigned to their first defeat of 2020.

Full Time - Woking 1-0 Yeovil Town

So a disappointing afternoon for Yeovil who squandered yet another opportunity to close the gap on league leaders Barrow who drew 1-1 at Boreham Wood. Other results went in our favour as well today as Harrogate and Bromley lost to Wrexham and Barnet respectively.

A mention must also go to the travelling supporters as well today - 878 Yeovil fans were in attendance which is fantastic. Let's hope we can keep up the great support on the road for the remainder of the season and give the players our full support.
