Match Report: Kings Lynn Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town came away from The Walks with a 2-2 draw yesterday afternoon in a game where both sides finished with 10 men. A Dale Gorman penalty after just 6 minutes gave the home side the lead but King's Lynn hit back through Michael Clunan. Yeovil were then reduced to 10 men as Matt Worthington was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Theo Wriddington and the home side took advantage before half time as they took the lead through Gold Omotayo. King's Lynn were then reduced to 10 men on 70 minutes as Manishe Sundire was shown a second yellow card and substitute Charlie Wakefield equalised in stoppage time to ensure Yeovil returned home with a point.

Charlie Lee made two changes to the side that drew 2-2 at Barnet last weekend. Lawson D'Ath and Charlie Wakefield dropped to the bench as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Josh Neufville regained a starting place.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Mark Little, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Barclay and Morgan Williams in front of Ted Cann. Josh Neufville, Dale Gorman, Matt Worthington and Tom Knowles made up the midfield while Reuben Reid and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton lead the attack.

On the bench was Jordan Barnett, Alex Bradley, Charlie Wakefield, Adi Yussuf and Lawson D'Ath.

King's Lynn kicked off towards the away end.

The first half was as scrappy affair and Yeovil were awarded a penalty after 6 minutes as Tom Knowles was fouled by Munashe Sundire in the box. Dale Gorman stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom left corner.

The half continued with neither side playing particularly well. King's Lynn had more of the opportunities but they were wasteful in front of goal and often blazing the ball over the bar.

Eventually though King's Lynn found a way through on 37 minutes as Michael Clunan ran into the box and fired home from close range.

Shortly afterwards Yeovil were reduced to 10 men as Matt Worthington was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Theo Wriddington.

1 minute before half time Yeovil made their first substitution as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Jordan Barnett.

Two minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and King's Lynn took the lead as a shot at goal from Joshua Barrett was parried into Gold Omotayo's path who had a simple finish to put the home side in front.

Half Time: King's Lynn Town 2-1 Yeovil Town

The match report from my perspective has to end at this point as I was ejected from the ground by two stewards for the heinous crime of sitting on a metal railing at half time. The rest of the match report has been taken (with permission) from the Gloverscast's match report.

With Yeovil down to ten men and the home side ahead, it was no surprise to see the opening 15 minutes not muster any significant chances for either side.

In fact, the only talking point was injuries to Gorman who had a collision of heads on the edge of the box and then on 66 minutes what appeared to be a lunging tackle on Knowles by Tyler Denton. But referee Swallow decided he would level up the numbers with when Sundire caught Neufville with a late tackle on 70 minutes to earn his second yellow.

Seven minutes later, a corner saw the ball floated to the back post by Gorman and Wilkinson, to this observer, seemed to be grabbed by the throat as he rose. Omotayo’s concern for his former team-mate, immediately calling for the physio, was not matched by referee Swallow.

A second change saw Charlie Wakefield replace Neufville on 80 minutes and the substitute fired a shot over two minutes later.

The injuries turned in to seven minutes of stoppage time added on and it was as the 90th minute ticked over that WAKEFIELD picked the ball up on the right and bent a beautiful shot in to level the scores.

Full Time: King's Lynn Town 2-2 Yeovil Town

Another point picked up on the road for Charlie Lee and it was certainly well deserved again. Goalkeeping errors are becoming a fairly common occurrence at the moment so eradicating this element from our game will help us convert some draws into wins.

A special note goes to the travelling Yeovil support though - as I was walking back to the coach I passed the away end on the far side when Yeovil scored and the cheer was so loud I thought it was King's Lynn who had scored! Keep it up Town fans - be loud and proud!

Yeovil's season continues on Friday afternoon as Aldershot Town are the visitors to Huish Park. Kick off is at 3:00PM
