Match Report: Yeovil Town v Aldershot Town

Yeovil Town fell to a 2-0 defeat to Aldershot Town this afternoon in a game that was mostly uninspiring. After a quiet and even first half Yeovil started the second half the brighter side but couldn't take their chances and Aldershot took the lead against the run of play on 65 minutes through Giles Phillips. With just over 20 minutes to go Ryan Glover put the away side two up and Yeovil couldn't find a way back into the game.

Charlie Lee made three changes to the side that drew 2-2 at King's Lynn last weekend. Ted Cann had returned to his parent club in midweek so Grant Smith was back between the sticks. Matt Worthington was out through suspension while Morgan Williams dropped to the bench as Jordan Barnett and Alex Bradley took their places.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Mark Little, Luke Wilkinson, Ben Barclay and Jordan Barnett in front of Grant Smith. Tom Knowles, Dale Gorman, Alex Bradley and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton made up the midfield while Reuben Reid and Josh Neufville lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Hunt, Morgan Williams, Charlie Wakefield, Adi Yussuf and Lawson D'Ath.

Aldershot kicked off towards the home end.

The first half was an even affair and neither side looked particularly threatening.

Yeovil did have the first opportunity though on 6 minutes when Reuben Reid laid the ball off for Tom Knowles and his effort rebounded off the post.

From then on neither side were looking like scoring and it took until the 35th minute for Yeovil to have another decent chance when Tom Knowles managed to put a low cross across the box from the right but nobody was able to get a touch on it.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Aldershot Town

Yeovil started the second half in much better fashion and were putting Aldershot under a lot of pressure but for all of their good play their finishing was woeful and they weren't able to test Ethan Ross in the Aldershot goal.

Aldershot made their first substitution on 58 minutes as Tommy Willard was replaced by Ryan Glover.

6 minutes later Yeovil made their first substitution as Josh Neufville was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

Just 30 seconds after the substitute Yeovil conceded against the run of play as a free kick from Lewis Kinsella was headed into the net at the back post by Giles Phillips.

Four minutes later Yeovil gifted Aldershot a second goal as poor defending allowed Alex Oxlaide-Chaimberlain to chase a loose ball on the right and found Ryan Glover who fired home.

Yeovil made their second substitution straight after the goal be replacing Alex Bradley with Lawson D'Ath.

There was about a 10 minute delay in play as well as a number of Aldershot Town fans received medical treatment - presumably injured during the celebrations in the away end.

The second goal had kind of killed the game off and the rest of the game was a fairly tame affair.

Aldershot made their second substitution on 79 minutes as Lewis Kinsella was replaced by Colin Daniel.

With 10 minutes left to play plus injury time there was still a slim chance Yeovil could get something from the game but they couldn't keep up enough pressure on the away side get back into the game.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 81 minutes as Mark Little was replaced by Adi Yussuf.

Aldershot's final substitution came on 87 minutes as Mikael Ndjoli was replaced by Alfy Whittingham.

12 minutes of time was added on at the end but they passed without incident and Charlie Lee's first game in charge at Huish Park ended in defeat.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 0-2 Aldershot Town

Apart from the first 10 or so minutes of the second half it wasn't a very inspiring game today. Had Yeovil been able to take their chances they could have easily won the game but Aldershot did what they had to do and got their reward.

Yeovil's season continues on Monday afternoon as we make the short trip to Weymouth. Kick off is at 1:00PM
