Match Report: Yeovil Town v Stockport County

Charlie Lee picked up his first win as Yeovil Town manager this afternoon as his Yeovil Town side saw off top of the table Stockport County 2-1 at Huish Park. Tom Knowles gave Yeovil the lead shortly before half time and Josh Neufville increased the advantage in the second half. Stockport pulled one back through former Glover Myles Hippolyte with 20 minutes to go but the away side were reduced to 10 men shortly after as Will Collar was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Dale Gorman. Yeovil were able to withstand some late pressure and hold on for the win.

Charlie Lee made two changes to the side that drew with Weymouth on Easter Monday as Charlie Wakefield and Ben Barclay were dropped from the side and replaced by Max Hunt and Josh Neufville.

Yeovil opted for a 4-3-3 formation with Mark Little, Luke Wilkinson, Max Hunt and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Dale Gorman, Lawson D'Ath and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Tom Knowles, Reuben Reid and Josh Neufville lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Jack Robinson, Adi Yussuf and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Yeovil kicked off towards the away terrace.

The majority of the first half was a tame affair with both sides struggling to create chances. Stockport had the edge in terms of general play but they certainly didn't look like a top of the table side.

The first decent chance for Yeovil came in the 33rd minute as a Luke Wilkinson free kick from the edge of the box on the left hand side was heading for the top corner but Ben Hinchliffe was able to catch the ball.

Shortly after Yeovil spurned a good chance to take the lead as Josh Neufville found Reuben Reid in the center of the box but he couldn't get a shot away at an open goal.

Out of pretty much nowhere Yeovil took the lead as Tom Knowles was able to get into a shooting position on the right hand side and his shot beat Ben Hinchliffe from a narrow angle.

Three minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and Yeovil went in with a slim advantage.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Stockport County

Stockport made a double substitution at half time as Liam Hogan and Andy Cannon were replaced by Myles Hippolyte and Ollie Crankshaw.

The second half started in a slow manner until 10 minutes in Yeovil doubled the advantage. Josh Neufville was put through on goal and he used his great pace to carry the ball to the edge of the box and slot the ball into the back of the net.

Shortly afterwards Stockport made their final substitution as Scott Quigley was replaced by Connor Jennings.

Stockport hadn't got themselves to the top of the league without being a good side and Yeovil still had to be weary of them. They pulled one back with 20 minutes to go through Myles Hippolyte after Yeovil didn't deal with the ball in the box.

Just 10 seconds after the game restarted Stockport were reduced to 10 men as Will Collar was shown a straight red card for a high foot while challenging the ball with Dale Gorman.

The man advantage meant Yeovil had a much better chance at holding onto the lead and they needed to ensure they didn't do anything silly in the remaining 20 minutes.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 79 minutes as Reuben Reid was replaced by Adi Yussuf.

With three minutes to go Yeovil made their second and final substitution as Lawson D'Ath was replaced by Alex Bradley.

Seven minutes of time was added on and Stockport had the ball in the net in the first minute of added time but luckily for Yeovil it was ruled out for offside.

Yeovil were able to withstand a late push from Stockport and Yeovil claimed their second victory over Stockport this season.
