Match Report: Yeovil Town v Bath City

Yeovil Town were crowned Champions of Somerset yesterday evening as they overcame old rivals Bath City 3-0 in the Somerset Premier Cup Final at Huish Park. Morgan Williams gave Yeovil the lead after just six minutes and Tom Knowles made it 2-0 three minutes into the second half. Ben Barclay scored the third with seven minutes left to play and Yeovil lifted the cup for the first time since 2005.

Charlie Lee put out a full strength squad for this fixture and opted for a 3-5-2 formation with Morgan Williams, Ben Barclay and Max Hunt in front of Grant Smith. Tom Knowles, Lawson D'Ath, Josh Staunton, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Josh Neufville and Reuben Reid lead the attack.

On the bench was Matt Worthington, Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Charlie Wakefield and Jack Robinson.

Yeovil kicked off towards the away end.

It didn't take long for Yeovil to take the lead as Morgan Williams took the ball off a Bath City defender and his shot beat Ryan Clarke who managed to get a hand to it but couldn't keep the ball out of the net.

The game was fairly flat from then on but Bath City were the team in ascendancy and beginning to put pressure on the Yeovil goal.

Yeovil had to make their first substitution on 24 minutes as Max Hunt picked up an injury and was replaced by Matt Worthington.

The half continued with Yeovil struggling but Bath weren't able to find a way through and Yeovil went in with a slim advantage at half time.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Bath City

The second half started in perfect fashion for Town as 3 minutes after the kick off Yeovil doubled the advantage. Tom Knowles was released on the right, cut inside and fired the ball into the net to give Yeovil a more comfortable advantage.

Once again though it was Bath City who ended up being the team in ascendancy but thanks to woeful finishing they rarely threatened.

Bath made their only substitution of the game on 63 minutes as Eddie Jones was replaced by David Sims-Burgess.

Yeovil then made their second substitution on 70 minutes as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Jack Robinson.

With seven minutes left to play the game was safe as Ben Barclay added a third for Yeovil. A corner from the left was met by Barclay at the back post who had a free header and most of the goal to aim at. The Bath players weren't particularly happy with the goal as they felt their keeper was being blocked from moving but the goal stood.

Yeovil then made their final substitution as Reuben Reid was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

The remainder of the game passed without incident and Yeovil were crowned Champions of Somerset.
