Match Report: Altrincham v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town ended the 2021-2022 season on a high as they overcame Altrincham 1-0 at Moss Lane yesterday afternoon. In a typical end of season game with nothing to play for it was Tom Knowles who got the winning goal on 18 minutes to see Yeovil finish the season in 12th place.

With Charlie Lee leaving his position as interim manager in the week before the game Josh Staunton was the man to lead the team for this fixture and six changes were made to the starting line up to the side that drew with Boreham Wood last weekend. Grant Smith dropped to the bench while Max Hunt and Luke Wilkinson were out with injury. Matt Worthington and Dale Gorman were dropped from the side while Josh Neufville went back to his parent club Luton Town. Max Hunt, Jordan Barnett, Reuben Reid, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Charlie Wakefield all took up a place as a result.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Jordan Barnett, Morgan Williams, Jack Robinson and Mark Little in front of Max Evans. Charlie Wakefield, Lawson D'Ath, Alex Bradley and Tom Knowles made up the midfield while Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Reuben Reid lead the attack.

On the bench was Grant Smith, Adi Yussuf, Josh Staunton and Oliver Haste.

The game got off to a slow start with neither team looking particularly threatening.

The game got a bit more interesting on 18 minutes when Tom Knowles gave Yeovil the lead. A good pass from Sonny Blu Lo-Everton allowed Tom Knowles to work his way into a good position and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

The half continued with both sides looking fairly even and no further clear cut chances for the rest of the half.

Yeovil had to make their first substitution on 37 minutes as Charlie Wakefield was deemed unable to continue after picking up an injury and was replaced by Adi Yussuf.

Half Time: Altrincham 0-1 Yeovil Town

Altrincham started the second half looking the more dangerous side and were putting pressure on the Yeovil goal but Max Evans was putting in a superb shift between the sticks and was able to deal with everything that Altrincahm could throw at him.

Altrincham made substitutions on 57, 61 and 69 minutes as Marcus Dinanga, Ryan Colclough and Andy White were replaced by Josh Hancock, Elliott Osborne and Andy White.

With just under 10 minutes to go Yeovil almost sealed the win as Adi Yussuf was put through on goal. He laid the ball off to Reuben Reid who was in a better position but he wasn't able to take the chance.

Yeovil made their second substitution on 84 minutes as Josh Staunton brought himself on for Alex Bradley.

4 minutes of time was added on and after Sonny Blu Lo-Everton made way for Oliver Haste to make his debut the game brought to and end and with it the end of another season.

Full Time: Altrincham 0-1 Yeovil Town

Yeovil ended up in 12th position with 59 points from 44 matches played. Their playing record was 15 wins, 14 draws and 15 losses.

The focus now switches to who will be revealed as the new first team manager as news last week informed the fans that the new manager would be announced some time this week.
