Match Report: Yeovil Town v Plymouth Argyle

Yeovil Town fell to their first pre-season defeat at Huish Park this afternoon as they beaten 2-0 by League One side Plymouth Argyle. Ryan Hardie gave the visitors the lead shortly after half time and Fin Azaz made it 2-0 on the hour mark. Both sides were reduced to 10 men as Matt Worthington and Bali Mumba were shown straight red cards and the game finished with a 2-0 defeat for Yeovil.

Yeovil fielded a strong starting XI which included Grant Smith, Morgan Williams, Jamie Reckord, Max Hunt, Matt Worthington, Alex Fisher, Tom Knowles, Malachi Linton, Sam Perry, Josh Staunton and new signing Chiori Johnson.

On the bench was Ollie Haste, Ollie Hulbert, Charlie Wakefield, Max Evans and a number of trialists.

Plymouth kicked off towards the home terrace.

Plymouth were showing their superiority during the first half as they controlled the ball well and were in control of the game.

The best chance of the half came on 25 minutes when a shot was blocked by Max Hunt and Grant Smith was able to claim the follow up attempt.

Little else happened during the remainder of the half and the teams went in level at the break.

Just two minutes into the second half Plymouth took the lead as a good team move was calmly finished by Ryan Hardie.

On the hour mark it was 2-0 to the visitors as a shot at goal was parried into the path of Fin Azaz who had a simple tap in.

Yeovil made three substitutions shortly after this as Malachi Linton, Alex Fisher and Chiori Johnson were replaced by Charlie Wakefield, Ollie Hulbert and a trialist.

Yeovil's best chance came on 66 minutes as Ollie Hulbert was sent through on goal but his shot was wide of the post.

Shortly afterwards a mass brawl broke out between the two sets of players as a scuffle between Matt Worthington and Bali Mumba boiled over. After order had been restored both players were shown straight red cards.

Yeovil made two further substitutions on 72 minutes as Sam Perry and Jamie Reckord were both replaced with trialists.

With eight minutes to go Yeovil replaced Tom Knowles with Toby Stephens and the match fizzled out with no further incident.
