Match Report: Yeovil Town v Barnet

Yeovil Town fell to a narrow 2-1 defeat to Barnet at Huish Park yesterday evening in a game where Yeovil were easily worthy of at least a point. After a goalless first half the away side took the lead with 20 minutes to go through Nike Kabamba and he added their second with 11 minutes remaining. Yeovil pulled one back just one minute later through Jamie Reckord but Yeovil couldn't level the scores.

Chris Hargreaves named an unchanged starting XI from the side that drew with Wrexham at the weekend.

Yeovil opted for a 5-3-2 formation with Charlie Wakefield, Morgan Williams, Max Hunt, Josh Staunton and Jamie Reckord in front of Grant Smith. Sam Perry, Matt Worthington and Sam Pearson made up the midfield while Alex Fisher and Malachi Linton lead the attack.

On the bench was Will Buse, Chiori Johnson, Alfie Pond, Gime Toure and Lawson D'Ath.

Barnet kicked off towards the home end.

Yeovil made a bright start to the game, forcing Barnet goalkeeper Laurie Walker to tip a Jamie Reckord shot over the bar for a corner.

Jamie Reckord was denied again four minutes later when another effort was well saved.

Yeovil came close again on 18 minutes when Malachi Linton's free header was expertly saved by Walker.

As the half wore on Barnet began to create chances of their own and had a great chance on 33 minutes when Ephron Mason-Clarke's cross was met by Nicke Kabamba at the far post who headed the ball into the ground giving Grant Smith the opportunity to catch the ball.

8 minutes before half time Yeovil again had a good chance to take the lead when Sam Pearson's shot was just about saved with Walker's legs.

4 minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and Yeovil went in as the superior side but with no goals to show for their efforts.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Barnet

Neither side made changes at half time and the game resumed with Yeovil the better of the two sides.

On 50 minutes another good goal scoring chance went begging when Sam Pearson's effort was again saved as Laurie Walker palmed the ball away but only into the path of Alex Fisher but his shot was blocked on the line.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 60 minutes as Alex Fisher made way for Gime Toure.

One minute later Barnet made their first substitution as Sean Sheilds was replaced by Connor Smith.

With 20 minutes to go Yeovil fell behind as Ephron Mason-Clark low cross to the middle of the box was met by Nicke Kamamba who bundled the ball into the back of the net.

Yeovil responded by replacing Sam Pearson for Lawson D'Ath.

Barnet also made their second substitution shortly after by replacing former Yeovil Town player Dale Gorman with Michael Phillips.

Yeovil's final substitution was made shortly after when Malachi Linton was replaced by Chiori Johnson.

On 79 minutes Barnet doubled the lead as Nicke Kambamba saw Grant Smith off his line and chipped the ball into the back of the net to leave Yeovil with a mountain to climb and very little time to do it.

Just one minute after though Yeovil pulled one back as Jamie Reckord met the ball at the far post and turned the ball in to set up an exciting last 10 minutes.

Yeovil piled the pressure on in the last 10 minutes in search of an equaliser but they couldn't find a way through and the game ended in defeat for Yeovil.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-2 Barnet

Despite Yeovil losing, many Yeovil fans left Huish Park in a positive mood as the team put in a good performance and played positive, attacking football. What let us down was not taking our chances, something which we will need to rectify very quickly but at least we are being creative. Sooner or later the goals will come and the feeling amongst the fans is that once we get our first win we will probably kick on and push up the table.
