Match Report - Dover Athletic v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town claimed their second win on the trot yesterday afternoon thanks to a 1-0 win over Dover Athletic at The Crabble. An early second half goal from Marc Richards was enough to give Town the three points in a game that was very comfortable for the away side.

Darren Sarll made only one change to the starting line-up that beat Wrexham 3-0 last weekend. The injured Liam O'Brien was replaced by Stuart Nelson and the returning keeper Adam Smith was named on the bench.

The first half was a fairly even affair with both sides playing some neat football. Dover did have the better of the opening ten minutes but Yeovil were able to assert themselves into the game and were causing problems for the home side.

Only half chances came and went during the first half but it was far from a dull game. Dover and Yeovil seemed to be pretty evenly matched but any potential attack either phased into nothing or was well defended.

Half Time - Dover Athletic 0-0 Yeovil Town

The game needed a goal to shake things up and that came just two minutes after the restart for the away side. Some excellent hold up play by Courtney Duffus saw him hold off a Dover defender long enough for Yeovil players to arrive in the box. Duffus then laid the ball off to Marc Richards who's well taken shot found the top corner to give Yeovil the lead.

After this Yeovil were pushing for a second goal as Dover struggled to contain Yeovil. Chances to go 2-0 up were coming and going as Albi Skendi saw his effort blaze over and a Courtney Duffus header rebounded off the bar.

As the clocked ticked down it was expected that a late onslaught from Dover would be coming but it never materialised. Any time Dover went forward the Yeovil defence held firm and Nelson was under no real danger.

4 minutes of stoppage time was added on which passed with no worries for the away side and Yeovil returned to Somerset with a well deserved three points.

Full Time - Dover Athletic 0-1 Yeovil Town

Yeovil were excellent throughout the match and their play deserved a bigger margin of victory. As 1-0 wins go this was very comfortable for Yeovil which was also reflected by the fact that Stuart Nelson only had one comfortable save to make all game.

The victory pushes us back up into third place after having fallen to fourth after the mid-week round of fixtures. League leaders Barrow were defeated 2-0 by Notts County so we are now 10 points behind them with 9 games to go. It's still big margin to pull back but it goes to show that the title race isn't over just yet.
