Man of the Match Voting for Yeovil v Hartlepool

Yeovil Town crashed out of the FA Cup tonight thanks to a 4-1 defeat to fellow National League side Hartlepool United. The match was being replayed this evening after the original match was called off on Saturday afternoon due to a waterlogged pitch. This didn't appear to have any affect on Hartlepool though as they were much the better side throughout the game.

Despite the final score-line it was Yeovil who started the brighter of the two sides - taking the lead just 3 minutes in as Lawson D'Ath picked up the ball and fired it into the bottom corner. Unfortunately, this was about as good as it got for the home side.

Yeovil's lead lasted just over 3 minutes as Hartlepool drew the match level when Myles Hippolyte's attempted clearance fell into the path of Luke James who's shot rebounded in off the post.

Yeovil's defence was lacking confidence and organisation as Hartlepool enjoyed large spells of play that the Yeovil failed to deal with and it was only a matter of time before Hartlepool got their second. 20 minutes into the match Hartlepool took the lead through Gavan Holohan who fired the ball past Stuart Nelson from the edge of the area.

The rest of the second half saw Yeovil desperately trying to prevent a third goal for Hartlepool and it was bit of a relief when the half-time whistle blew as Yeovil went in only chasing the game 2-1. Had Hartlepool capitalised on the lackluster defending the game would have been already over.

The second half saw Yeovil looking a bit more comfortable on the ball but they were still lacking that cutting edge that has seen us do so well in the league so far this season. Hartlepool kept their cool though and increased their lead on 59 minutes when Nicke Kabamba headed in from close range.

On 70 minutes Yeovil were reduced to 10 men as Luke Wilkinson was sent off for a second yellow card. This meant that it would be a long way back for Yeovil now if they were to going to force a replay in the North-East.

Hartlepool were awarded a penalty on 86 minutes and Gime Toure sent Nelson the wrong way to reward the 101 travelling Hartlepool fans with a 4-1 win for their effort in making the match.

5 minutes of stoppage time was added on but the result was never in doubt and Hartlepool advance to the second round proper of the FA Cup where they will meet either Exeter City or Cambridge United.
