Match Report - Taunton Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town were defeated 2-1 at the hands of Taunton Town this evening in their fourth pre-season friendly. Goals from Nick Grimes and Gethyn Hill either side of half time were enough to give Taunton the win.

Just like in their previous pre-season game at Weston on Tuesday evening Yeovil fielded a strong starting XI with no trialists named. Charlie Lee returned to the squad after being suspended for the previous pre-season fixture after his red card at Frome and Luke Wilkinson also returned to the starting XI.

The game started brightly for Yeovil as they were forcing early chances but didn't do enough to trouble the Taunton keeper.

Taunton were playing some nice football of their own and as the game went on were beginning to cause Yeovil some trouble. They took the lead on 28 minutes as Nick Grimes headed home from a corner.

Yeovil almost levelled the game 3 minutes later when Courtney Duffus unleashed a good shot but the keeper was equal to the effort and the chance had gone.

Just before half time Yeovil almost went 2-0 down as a mix up in defence almost allowed a Taunton player to steal the ball and shoot into an empty net but they just about managed to clear their lines.

Half Time: Taunton Town 1-0 Yeovil Town

2 minutes into the second half Yeovil were gifted a chance to level the game as they were awarded a penalty. This seemed a bit harsh in all honesty as there didn't seem to be much contact but Yeovil weren't going to complain. Rhys Murphy stepped up to take the penalty but the Taunton keeper produced an excellent save and pushed the shot onto the post and Taunton were able to clear the danger.

Yeovil were made to pay for this as Taunton went 2-0 up just 9 minutes later. A long range shot was well saved by Adam Smith but Gethyn Hill was on hand to head in the loose ball.

As time ticked away Yeovil did manage to pull one back as Luke Wilkinson headed home from a corner. Shortly afterwards Yeovil made a large number of substitutions which featured a number of academy players. Carl Dickinson, Luke Wilkinson, Rhys Murphy and Courtney Duffus were the ones to make way.

The final 10 minutes passed without incident as neither side were able to create any opportunities and Yeovil tasted their second defeat of their 2020-2021 pre-season campaign.

Full Time: Taunton Town 2-1 Yeovil Town

The next pre-season game for Yeovil is a short trip to Dorchester Town on Tuesday with a 7PM kick off.
