Match Report - Chesterfield v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town claimed all three points last night by beating struggling Chesterfield 2-1 at the Proact Stadium. First half goals from Myles Hippolyte and Rhys Murphy were enough to see off Chesterfield and claim their second win in a row.

There was only one change to the side that beat Halifax Town 2-0 at the weekend - Rhys Murphy was brought back into the side to replace the suspended Gold Omotayo who was red carded on Saturday.

The match was looking like it may be called off as heavy rain before the game meant a pitch inspection was planned for 6.30PM. This was then delayed until 7 as Chesterfield and Yeovil were trying their best to ensure the game went ahead.

Thankfully the rain stopped at about 6.45 and the news at 7PM was that the game would kick off 15 minutes late to ensure the match would be played.

As has often been the case this season Yeovil made a blistering start to the game - taking the lead after just two minutes. Some good play from Chris Dagnall saw him find Myles Hippolyte who found the bottom corner to claim his fourth goal of the season.

Chesterfield were forced to make an early substitute as Chesterfield's Matt Tootle was stretchered off on 8 minutes and was replaced by David Buchanan.

Yeovil doubled their advantage on 24 minutes as Rhys Murphy chased down a loose ball but was then fouled in the box by Anthony Gerrard. Murphy then stepped up and converted the penalty for his fifteenth goal of the season and claim Yeovil's second of the night.

Yeovil kept pressing for the remainder of the half but were unable to increase their lead even further and went in at the break with a 2-0 advantage.

Half Time Chesterfield 0-2 Yeovil Town

The second half saw Chesterfield desperately trying to find a way back into the game and they did just that on 60 minutes as a cracking shot from Curtis Weston flew into the top corner to halve the deficit.

Chesterfield's game went from bad to worse shorlty afterwards though as goalkeeper Luke Coddington went down injured after a long kick up the field and was eventually stretchered off. Chesterfield had already made all three substitutions at this point so were forced to field center-back Will Evans in goal and play out the remainder of the match with ten men.

Despite this Chesterfield were putting Yeovil under pressure and were having good spells of possession to try and get the equaliser.

Yeovil were trying their best to calm the match down but at times it seemed as though they were trying too hard to get their third goal and as a result were losing possession frequently.

9 minutes of added time were given at the end of the match due to the injury to Luke Coddington and right at the death a corner for Chesterfield had the 94 Yeovil fans worried that they would snatch a draw. Thankfully nothing came of the corner and Yeovil held on for all three points in Derbyshire.

Full Time Chesterfield 1-2 Yeovil Town

After last weekends victory of Halifax Town it was great to see that Yeovil could continue that momentum into yesterdays game. The win sees Yeovil move into second place, three points behind leaders Barrow who have a game in hand.

This coming Saturday sees a break from league action as Town face Welling in the first round of the FA Trophy before travelling to AFC Fylde the following weekend were they will be hoping to make it three league wins on the spin.
