Match Report - Yeovil Town v Torquay United

Yeovil Town produced an emphatic performance this afternoon to claim superb 6-2 victory over Torquay United at Huish Park. In-form forward Courtney Duffus hit a hat-trick alongside goals from Myles Hippolyte, Albi Skendi and Chris Dagnall to give Town the three points.

Town made only one change to the starting XI that drew 2-2 with AFC Fylde last weekend - Lee Collins took his place in the starting line-up as Chris Dagnall dropped to the bench.

Yeovil got off to a dream start as they took the lead just 3 minutes in. Some good build up play by Albi Skendi saw him pass the ball to Myles Hippolyte who fired Town in front.

Just 4 minutes later Huish Park erupted as Yeovil doubled their lead. Albi Skendi capitalised on Torquay's shaky defence and headed home from a corner.

Yeovil could sense that Torquay were rattled as both of the goals they had conceded so far were easily preventable. Yeovil continued to press forward to take advantage of this as they looked the far superior side.

On 15 minutes Town turned that pressure into a third goal. A good ball from Myles Hippolyte found Courtney Duffus at the far post who gave town a 3-0 advantage as he scored his first goal of the afternoon.

With the game now firmly in Yeovil's control the game fell a bit flat as Yeovil seemed to ease off somewhat. Torquay were able to use this period of the game to calm their nerves and managed to pull a goal back on 29 minutes as Asa Hall fired the ball home following a free kick.

This seemed to get Yeovil going again as they once again enjoyed sustained pressure on the Torquay United goal. A succession of corners 10 minutes before half-time had Torquay pinned back and Yeovil had multiple chances to grab a fourth goal but Torquay managed to keep Yeovil out through some dogged defending.

Town almost made it 4 on 42 minutes as an effort from Rhys Murphy flew across the goal line but the on-rushing Courtney Duffus was unable to turn the ball into the net despite being mere inches from goal. It was one of those chances where it seemed impossible to miss but with Town's 2 goal cushion it mattered little.

Half Time - Yeovil Town 3-1 Torquay United

The second half started fairly slowly as it seemed as though Yeovil were happy to slow the game down and ensure that any Torquay fightback would be snuffed out. This couldn't have been further from the truth as Yeovil began to pile more and more pressure on Torquay much to the delight of the home crowd.

Yeovil did manage to find that elusive fourth goal that their play deserved as Albi Skendi found Duffus free who claimed his second of the afternoon and ensured that there would be no Torquay fight-back.

Just 12 minutes later Yeovil made it 5-1 as Chris Dagnall - who had only been on the pitch for three minutes - claimed his first league goal for Yeovil by slotting the ball past Shaun MacDonald in the Torquay goal.

Yeovil continued to press forward and Duffus claimed a hat-trick in the 87th minute after poking the ball home from a Chris Dagnall cross.

Torquay did manage to pull a late consolation goal back through former Yeovil player Ben Whitfield but this was Yeovil's day and they ran out deserved 6-2 winners.

Full Time - Yeovil Town 6-2 Torquay United

The performance this afternoon was absolutely superb and the score-line reflects Yeovil's dominance over their opponents today. There were so many stand-out performances as Albi Skendi was pretty much un-playable, Duffus continued his excellent scoring run by claiming his 9th, 10th and 11th goal of the season and Dagnall was excellent as well after he came on in the 68th minute to name a few.

The victory takes Yeovil level on points with league leaders Barrow who could only draw at home to AFC Fylde. The score-line for Yeovil also means that Barrow's once far-superior goal difference has almost been wiped out. Other results also went our way today as Bromley lost 3-0 at Dover Athletic.

Yeovil travel to Sutton United on Saturday in a match that will be shown live on BT Sport before travelling to Torquay United on New Years Day for the return fixture of today's game.
