Match Report - Halifax Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town claimed their third draw in four games last night at The Shay as they came from behind to draw 1-1 with Halifax Town. An early goal from Jeff King put the home side ahead but Courtney Duffus lobbed the keeper after a poor defensive header gave him possession.

Darren Sarll opted for a change of formation for this game with Josh Staunton, Lee Collins and Luke Wilkinson in front of Adam Smith and Ryan Burke and Dan Leadbitter pushing forward. The midfield was made up of Charlie Lee, Albi Skendi and Matt Warburton with Rhys Murphy and Courtney Duffus leading the attack.

The game got off to a dreadful start for Yeovil as Halifax took the lead just 5 minutes into the match. Another mix-up in defence allowed the ball to fall to Jeff King at the back post who fired the ball into the roof of the net from close range.

Halifax almost doubled the lead 2 minutes later as a cross into the box was not dealt with and the ball flashed across the face of goal but luckily there was nobody there to take the chance.

Despite being a goal down and seemingly being shaky at the back Yeovil were actually playing some positive football and were enjoying a lot of possession.

As the half wore on it was Yeovil who were in command of the play but they were unable to create any clear-cut chances and had to be weary of the counter-attack from the home side.

Just before half time Adam Smith was forced into making an excellent save as Martin Woods shot from inside the box was parried away. It fell to former Yeovil Town player Gold Omotayo but he was tackled before he could get a shot away.

Half Time: Halifax Town 1-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil made their first substitution at half time as Gabby Rogers was introduced for Ryan Burke.

Yeovil started brightly in the second half as once again they were enjoying plenty of possession. They got their reward for their play on 52 minutes as a poor defensive header fell to Courtney Duffus who lobbed Sam Johnson in the Halifax goal to pull Yeovil level.

New signing Joe Quigley was given his debut for Yeovil Town on 71 minutes as he was introduced for Rhys Murphy.

As the game entered the final 20 minutes it was Yeovil who were still dictating the play and they almost went ahead on 73 minutes as Charlie Lee stormed into the Halifax penalty area but his shot was well saved by Sam Johnson who even saved the rebound to keep the game at 1-1.

Yeovil were still having to be weary of the counter attack as they almost got caught out a number of times but each time they were able to recover and regain possession.

On 83 minutes a Halfiax free kick from just outside the box was taken by Gevaro Nepomuceno and his shot was heading into the top corner but Adam Smith was there once again to tip the ball over the bar.

5 minutes of time was added on at the end of the game and both sides were hoping to grab a late winner.

Yeovil almost did just that as a good cross into the box from Gabby Rogers was met by Joe Quigley but his header flashed wide of the post and the game ended in a draw for the third time in four games for Yeovil.

Full Time: Halifax Town 1-1 Yeovil Town

The overall performance from Yeovil was much better than we have seen in previous games as they were able to be a much more effective side for both halves. It was disappointing to give away a soft goal again but Yeovil showed once again that they are capable of playing well for sustained periods of time and they were unlucky not to come away from The Shay with all three points.

Yeovil's next game is away at Dagenham & Redbridge on Saturday where they will be hoping to pick up their first win of the season.
