Match Report - Yeovil Town v Chesterfield

Yeovil Town fell to another disappointing defeat at Huish Park this afternoon as Chesterfield capitalised on a poor performance from Town to take all three points. Tom Denton's second half goal was enough to win the game as Yeovil couldn't muster any response.

Darren Sarll made 4 changes to the side that was defeated 2-1 by Sutton in midweek. Lawson D'Ath, Rhys Murphy, Gabriel Rogers and the injured Josh Staunton were replaced by Morgan Williams - on loan from Coventry City for one month, Matt Worthington, Ryan Burke and Carl Dickinson.

Adam Smith had Carl Dickinson, Daniel Leadbitter, Luke Wilkinson and Morgan Williams in front of him while the midfield was made up of Charli Lee, Albi Skendi, Matt Wortington, Matt Warburton and Ryan Burke while Joe Quigley lead the attack on his own.

Chesterfield kicked the game off in bright conditions as Huish Park with Yeovil attacking the away terrace.

The first half can be described as a complete non-event as neither side created any clear opportunities or were able to get a sustained amount of possession. It was a scrappy opening 45 minutes where nothing worth noting happened and it was actually a relief to hear the full time whistle blow so that hopefully both sides will be given talking to to try and liven this game up.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Chesterfield

The second half was a livelier affair and Chesterfield almost took the lead on 50 minutes. A free-kick on the right hand side was delivered into the box and Laurence Maguire's header was deflected off the outside of the post but it wouldn't have mattered anyway as he was adjudged to have been in an offside position.

Yeovil's first effort on goal game on 52 minutes as as Matt Warburton shot from the edge of the box but it was straight at Kyle Letheren in the Chesterfield goal.

Just 1 minute later Adam Smith was forced into making a point-blank save as a bullet header from just 6 yards out from Jonathan Smith was pushed onto the bar to keep the match level.

As the second half progressed it was Chesterfield who were looking more in control of the fixture and they took the lead on 68 minutes as some sloppy defending allowed Tom Denton in on goal who had time to pick his spot and fired into the roof of the net to give the away side the lead.

Yeovil made their first two substitutions on 71 minutes as Ryan Burke was replaced by Gabby Rogers and Matt Warburton made way for Rhys Murphy.

3 minutes later Yeovil made their final change as Matt Worthington made way for Jimmy Smith.

The substitutes appeared to give Town a lift and they were able to press forward with a bit more intent as they were desperate to find the equalising goal.

Yeovil had a penalty shout turned away on 84 minutes as Rhys Murphy was brought down in the box. The referee initially brought his whistle to his lips but decided against it and play continued.

4 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil needed to find the goal to earn a point but it wasn't to be and Yeovil slipped to their third defeat of the season.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Chesterfield

Today was very disappointing as the performance from Town very poor and they deserved to lose this game. What's worrying at this stage is that we haven't got a win yet and if we continue to perform like that we won't get many over the course of the season.

Darren Sarll will have to quickly identify where the problems are in the side and put them right before a bad start turns into a mini-crisis as Yeovil currently sit in 22nd place after 7 games.
