Match Report - Sutton United v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town fell to their second defeat in three days tonight as they were defeated 2-1 by high flying Sutton United at Gander Green Lane. Isaac Olaofe capitalised on a defensive mistake just after the half hour mark to give the home side the lead but Yeovil equalised through Reuben Reid ten minutes into the second half. Sutton then won the game late on as Harry Beautyman's goal restored the home sides' lead and Yeovil couldn't find a way back into the game.

Darren Sarll made one change to the side that was beaten 3-0 at Chesterfield at the weekend. Matt Worthington returned to the starting XI as Josh Neufville dropped to the bench.

Carl Dickinson, Josh Neufville, Charlie Lee, Joe Quigley and Chris Dagnall made up the bench.

Yeovil lined up in their normal 4-4-2 formation with Alex Bradley, Max Hunt, Billy Sass-Davies and Michael Kelly in front of Adam Smith. Jimmy Smith, Matt Worthington, Tom Knowles and Albi Skendi made up the midfield while Rhys Murphy and Reuben Reid lead the attack.

Yeovil Town kicked off towards the home terrace.

The home side made the brighter start of the game and unfortunately for Yeovil they were the better side throughout the first half. With the game just one minute old Sutton won their first corner as an early Sutton shot at goal had to be pushed behind for a corner.

Rob Milsom took the corner kick on the right hand side which was headed on by Louis John but it was wide of the target.

Yeovil were struggling to settle in this game but they did have a shot at goal from Matt Worthington but it was never enough to trouble Dean Bouzanis in the Sutton goal.

Sutton were putting more and more pressure on Yeovil and won another corner on 13 minutes which was taken by Ben Goodliffe on the right hand side. His cross to the corner was met by a Sutton player but the header was wide.

Yeovils best chance of the half came on 16 minutes as Albi Skendi picked up the ball and put a low cross in across the face of goal but no green shirt was there to meet the cross and the chance had gone.

More half chances game Suttons way mid way into the half and on 25 minutes Sutton also appealed for a penalty it was waved away and they had to settle for corner kick which was defended away.

Sutton managed to win the ball back and won a free kick just to the right of the box about 20 yards from goal but Rob Milsom's shot ended up sailing over the bar.

Sutton almost managed to turn their pressure into goals on the half hour mark as Jon Barden's cross found Harry Beautyman who headed goalwards only for Max Hunt to produced a superb goal line headed clearance to put the ball behind for a corner. Harry Beautyman took the corner which Max Hunt cleared with no problem.

On 32 minutes though Sutton did manage to take the lead and it was a self inflicted goal as Yeovil were trying to play out from the back and Max Hunt's attempted pass across the defence was given straight to Isaac Olaofe who just had Adam Smith to beat which he duly did from just inside the box.

Sutton were completely worthy of their lead but the nature of the way the goal was conceded was very disappointing.

Yeovil managed to win their first corner of the game on 39 minutes which was taken by Michael Kelly on the right hand side. His deep cross to the far post found Max Hunt but his header was off target.

Two minutes of time was added on and Sutton United went in at the break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Half Time: Sutton United 1-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil made a bright start to the second half and were starting to trouble the home side. On 49 minutes a free kick from distance from Tom Knowles had to be pushed behind for a corner. Alex Bradley delivered the corner but the keeper was able to catch the cross.

Yeovil continued to look lively and they equalised on 55 minutes as a good counter attack allowed Matt Worthington to deliver a low cross to Reuben Reid who fired past Dean Bouzanis to level the scores.

Just two minutes later it was almost 2-1 to Yeovil as another low cross flashed across the box but the onrushing Rhys Murphy couldn't quite get there to make connection.

This gave Sutton a bit of a wake up call as they duly began to settle back into the game and were once again looking threatening and creating chances.

Yeovil had to make their first substitution on 67 minutes as Matt Worthington had to be replaced through injury. Josh Neufville took his place.

Five minutes later Sutton made their only substitute of the game as Isaac Olaofe was replaced by Donovan Wilson.

With 15 minutes still to play the game was hanging in the balance as both sides were creating chances. Sutton were looking slightly more clinical but Yeovil still had a chance at taking all three points.

With eight minutes left to play though it was Sutton who took the lead as a cross into the box wasn't dealt with and Donovan Wilson's shot was deflected into the path of Harry Beautyman who fired past Adam Smith.

Yeovil made a double substitution on 84 minutes as Tom Knowles was replaced byt Joe Quigley and Rhys Murphy was replaced by Chris Dagnall.

Sutton now had to ensure they saw the game out and they did a good job of it as Yeovil didn't create much late on and after the five minutes of added time was up Sutton walked off worthy winners of this match.
