Match Report: Yeovil Town v Barnet

Yeovil Town claimed a comfortable 3-1 win over struggling Barnet at Huish Park this afternoon. First half goals from Tom Knowles, Charlie Lee and Josh Neufville gave Town a commanding 3-0 lead at half time. Barnet managed to pull one back through Themis Kefalas in the second half but they couldn't stage a comeback.

Darren Sarll made 1 change to the side that drew 2-2 with Notts County on Saturday. Jimmy Smith dropped to the bench as Chris Dagnall took his place in the starting XI.

Yeovil reverted to their usual 4-4-2 formation with Max Hunt, Carl Dickinson, Michael Kelly and Albi Skendi in front of Adam Smith. Matt Worthington, Charlie Lee, Tom Knowles and Josh Neufville made up the midfield while Chris Dagnall and Reuben Reid lead the attack.

On the bench was Lee Collins, Emmanuel Sonupe, Joe Quigley, Jimmy Smith and Matt Warburton.

Yeovil Town kicked off towards the away terrace.

Yeovil made the better start to the game and were creating some decent chances but struggled in the opening 5 minutes or so to make the most of them.

They didn't have to wait long until they found their breakthrough as Yeovil took the lead with just minutes on the clock. A great run by Tom Knowles saw him beat a few Barnet players before unleashing a low shot on the edge of the box which found the bottom right corner.

Barnet seemed to be woken up by the goal and the next ten minutes of the half saw them start to play some neat football and were starting to put Yeovil under some pressure.

Yeovil were able to weather the storm and won their first corner on on 22 minutes which was taken on the right hand side by Michael Kelly. His cross to the near post was easily defended and the chance had gone.

Just two minutes later Yeovil doubled their advantage as Charlie Lee's shot on the volley flew into the bottom right corner and Yeovil now had a firm grip on the game.

Barnet then won their first corners of the game as they had three in quick succession, all taken by Michael Petrasso from the left hand side but Yeovil were able to deal with them and eventually managed to clear their lines.

Yeovil could sense that they could get more goals in this game and they did exactly that on 33 minutes as Josh Neufville received the ball on the edge of the area, cut inside his man and produced a low shot to the bottom left corner which went in off the post and Yeovil now had a commanding 3-0 lead to show for their dominating play so far.

As the half ticked away Yeovil were still playing nice football and Matt Worthington got in on the shooting action on 44 minutes with a powerful shot from the edge of the area which had to be pushed over for a corner on the right hand side but Michael Kelly's cross was too deep and Yeovil couldn't make the most of it.

1 minute of time was added on and Yeovil went in at the break fully in command of this game.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 3-0 Barnet

Yeovil weren't as dominating in the second half but Barnet weren't able to offer much in terms of goal scoring threat either which made for a dull 45 minutes.

Yeovil did have a chance early on to increase their lead further as Tom Knowles realeased Chris Dagnall on the right hand side who managed to beat the onrushing Barnet keeper to the ball and suddenly Yeovil had a great chance. Dagnall took it to the goal line and crossed the ball to the center of the box for Reuben Reid but he couldn't get a shot away and the chance had gone.

On 57 minutes Yeovil made their first substitution as Reuben Reid was replaced by Joe Quigley.

On 62 minutes Barnet won a corner on the right hand side which was again taken by Michael Petrasso but the ball went straight out of play which kind of summed up Barnets afternoon.

3 minutes later Yeovil won a corner of their own on the right hand side which was taken by Michael Kelly but his cross to the center of the box was caught by the keeper.

1 minute later though Barnet pulled a goal back as they won a corner on the right which was taken short to Lee Vaughan and his cross to the center of the box was bundled over the line by Themis Kefalas and Barnet now had something to build on.

Barnet made their first substitution straight after the goal as JJ Hooper was replaced by Muhammadu Faal.

On 68 minutes Yeovil were given a great opportunity to restore their three goal lead as they were awarded a free kick on the right edge of the box for a foul on Tom Knowles. Carl Dickinson stepped up to take it but he went for a shot rather than a cross and the shot was wide of the target.

Barnet made their second substitution on 75 minutes as Ephron Mason-Clark was replaced by Antonis Vasiliou.

Yeovil then made their second substitution two minutes later as Josh Neufville was replaced by Emmanuel Sonupe.

With 10 minutes left to go Barnet were awarded a free kick in an almost identical position as Yeovil's earlier on. Albi Skendi was punished for bringing down Michael Petrasso on the edge of the area and they had a free kick on the left hand edge of the box and a good opportunity to make it 3-2 which would set up a very tense finish to the game. Tomi Adeloye stepped up to take it but just like Carl Dickinson he went for the shot and it ended up well wide of the target.

On 82 minutes Yeovil made their final substitution as Tom Knowles was replaced by Jimmy Smith.

With a two goal advantage and only 10 or so minutes left to play it was comfortable finish to the game for Yeovil and after three minutes of added time was up Yeovil ran out with a fully deserved 3-1 win.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 3-1 Barnet

It was good to get back to winning ways this afternoon and hopefully Yeovil can push on from their recent run of bad games and get a good run of form going again. Barnet again looked poor today but as is often said in football you can only beat what is put in front of you and Yeovil had to make sure they got the job done today.

The result see's us lift up into 13th place but we are still on 39 points after temporarily dropping to 36 points in the week. Dover Athletic's results this season have been expunged for not being able to complete their season and this means that Yeovil's 3-1 win over them at the end of January is now null and void the points removed from Yeovil's tally.

Our season continues on Good Friday as Yeovil make the long trip north to face Altrincham at Moss Lane where they will be hoping to claim their second victory over them this season.
