Match Report - Yeovil Town v Forest Green Rovers

Yeovil Town fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to League Two side Forest Green Rovers at Huish Park this afternoon. A goal from Jamille Matt 13 minutes into the game was enough to see the Gloucestershire side return home with victory. Yeovil played well throughout the game and made numerous chances of their own but they couldn't find the back of the net.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Jordan Barnett, Max Hunt, Luke Wilkinson and Mark Little in front of Grant Smith. Dale Gorman, Josh Staunton, Charlie Wakefield and Tom Knowles made up the midfield while Reuben Reid and Joe Quigley lead the attack.

On the bench was Matt Worthington, Max Evans, Alex Bradley Lewis Simper and three trialists.

Yeovil made a bright start to the game and had a decent chance after just two minutes when Reuben Reid and Charlie Wakefield caused problems for the Forest Green defence but Rovers keeper Luke McGee put the ball out for a corner which came to nothing.

On 11 minutes Yeovil had a goal disallowed as Reuben Reid's effort was chalked off for a handball in the buildup.

Two minutes later Yeovil almost gave away a soft goal as a mix up between the defence and Grant Smith almost gifted Forest Green the opener but Yeovil were able to clear the ball away at the last minute.

Just one minute later though Forest Green did take the lead as Jamille Matt produced a low shot which found the bottom corner.

After a frantic opening 13 or so minutes the game began to settle down and few clear cut chances were being created. Yeovil were playing well against League Two opposition and were playing some neat football.

As half time approached Yeovil thought they had levelled the scores as Tom Knowles produced a good shot from the edge of the area that was pushed into Reuben Reid's path and he was able to fire the ball home but unfortunately he was adjudged to be offside.

Yeovil ended the half strongly and were the side looking more dangerous but they couldn't create anything else of note and went into the break a goal down.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Forest Green Rovers

The second half started fairly slowly with neither side looking particularly threatening. Yeovil made their first substitution on 55 minutes as Mark Little was replaced by Alex Bradley.

Yeovil's best chance of the game came on 63 minutes after Luke McGee spilled the ball in the box which fell to Reuben Reid who had most of the goal to aim at but he blasted the ball high over the bar when it seemed like he was destined to score.

On 70 minutes Yeovil made five substitutions in one go as Josh Staunton, Dale Gorman, Reuben Reid, Jordan Barnett and Luke Wilkinson were replaced Matt Worthington, Lewis Simper and three trialists.

Yeovil continued to play some good football but for the remainder of the game neither side looked like scoring. Forest Green weren't pushing too hard for a second goal and seemed to be exercising game management to keep hold of the 1-0 advantage.

Right at the death Yeovil did have an opportunity to snatch a draw as a trialist did well on the right hand side which allowed Alex Bradley to produce a shot but it was blocked and Yeovil suffered their first defeat of their pre-season campaign.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Forest Green Rovers

It was an entertaining game this afternoon and there are plenty of positives to take from this game. Yeovil created more chances today than they did up at Stratford last weekend and were unlucky to have lost the game given that they had two goals chalked off. The trialist again looked promising and with this being only our second pre-season game we have plenty more time to iron out issues with the squad.

Our pre-season is set to continue on Tuesday night where travel to Wordsworth Drive to face Taunton Town. Kick off is at 7:30PM.
