Match Report: Taunton Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town claimed a narrow 1-0 victory at Taunton Town yesterday evening in their third pre-season fixture of the season. Tom Knowles netted late on to give Yeovil their second victory in three pre-season matches.

Yeovil lined up in their usual 4-4-2 formation with Jordan Barnett, Max Hunt, Luke Wilkinson and Alex Bradley in front of Grant Smith. Josh Staunton, Lewis Simper, Charlie Wakefield and Matt Worthington made up the midfield while Reuben Reid and a trialist lead the attack.

On the bench was Dale Gorman, Tom Knowles, Max Evans, Joe Quigley and Ollie Haste.

The first half was a very tame affair with neither side looking very threatening. Yeovil played the better football but couldn't carve out any decent opportunities.

Taunton were having similar issues as they rarely threatened and struggled to carve out opportunities.

The best shot of the half came on 38 minutes when Alex Bradly pinged an effort at goal that flashed just wide of the post with Taunton keeper Lloyd Irish unable to attempt a save.

Taunton began the second half looking more dangerous and were putting Yeovil under early pressure. Yeovil managed to weather the storm and eventually began playing their way back into the game.

On 61 minutes Yeovil made a double substitution as Lewis Simper and a trialist made way for Tom Knowles and Joe Quigley.

The introduction of Tom Knowles allowed Yeovil to look much more lively and they began to look the more dangerous side again.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 76 minutes as Luke Wilkinson made way for Dale Gorman.

As full time approached it looked as though a 0-0 draw was going to be the outcome but with just 5 minutes to go Tom Knowles fired the ball past Lloyd Irish on the volley to put Yeovil 1-0 up.

The final few minutes were very comfortable and Yeovil claimed their second pre-season victory.

Yeovil were worthy winners in the end but Yeovil really need to find a striker who can ensure our good build up play doesn't fizzle out as it did last night. It is highly likely that the club will be playing the waiting game to find Football League players without a club after the transfer window and grab themselves a professional who wasn't able to get a deal sorted in time.

Yeovils pre-season continues on Saturday afternoon as the club makes the short trip to Weston-Super-Mare. Kick off is at 3PM.
