Match Report: Yeovil Town v Bridgwater United

Yeovil Town progressed to the second round of the Somerset Premier Cup yesterday evening thanks to a 4-1 win over Bridgwater United at Huish Park. Town fell behind after just two minutes as a 25 yard free kick from Jack Taylor found the bottom corner but Yeovil were able to equalise on the half hour mark through Morgan Williams. Yeovil upped their game in the second half and goals from Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Adi Yussuff and Finley Skiverton put Yeovil into the next round.

As was to be expected Yeovil fielded a mixture of first team and youth team players for this game. In defence was Jack Robinson, Max Hunt, Morgan Williams and Jake Graziano in front of Max Evans. Matt Worthington, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Oliver Haste and Toby Stephens made up the midfield while Adi Yussuff lead the attack.

On the bench was Callum Smalley, Pedro Borges, Finlay Skiverton, Jonny Lye and Korey Andrews.

Yeovil were struggling in the first half which was largely due to the mis-match team as they struggled to play with fluency and often gave the ball away cheaply.

It only took Bridgwater United two minutes to take the lead as a 25 yard free kick from Jack Taylor nestled into the bottom corner.

The more the half progressed the more Yeovil began to settle and they began to create chances of their own. Yeovil almost pulled it level again on 13 minutes as a good cross into the box from Sonny Blu Lo-Everton almost found Adi Yussuf but he wasn't able to get on the end of it.

After gradually getting more into the game Yeovil pulled the game level on 30 minutes as Max Hunt put a good cross into the box which Adi Yussuf was able to get to first but his effort cannoned off the crossbar and Morgan Williams was the quickest to react to put the ball in the back of the net.

On 33 minutes Yeovil won their first corner of the game on the right hand side which was crossed into the center of the box but Bridgwater were able to head the ball away.

Yeovil won another corner shortly afterwards which was taken short but Bridgwater manage to defend it clear.

On 37 minutes Bridgwater made their first substitution as Morgan Williams was replaced by Adnan Hiroli.

The rest of the half passed without incident and both sides went in at the break all square.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Bridgwater United

Yeovil were much better in the second half and for the entire half were really the only team in the game.

On 61 minutes Yeovil almost took the lead as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was put through on goal but his shot was saved by Jake Viney for a corner which was defended.

Just two minutes later though Lo-Everton made up for the miss as he found the bottom corner from the left hand side of the box to give Town a 2-1 lead.

After the goal Bridgwater made their second substitution as George King was replaced by Ryan Brereton.

On 72 minutes Yeovil almost increased their lead a good cross across the box wasn't met by anyone but Oliver Haste was able to fire the ball goalwards on the opposite side which was headed over for a corner but it came to nothing.

On 74 minutes Yeovil made their first substitution as Jake Graziano was replaced by Finlay Skiverton.

Yeovil made the game much more comfortable on 76 minutes as Adi Yussuf was put through on goal by Jack Robinson and his powerful shot beat Jake Viney to give Town a 3-1 advantage.

After the goal Bridgwater made their final substitution as Archie Sturdy was replaced by Jimenez Wellington.

Bridgwater won their first and only corner of the game on 82 minutes which was crossed to the far post but Yeovil could defend with ease.

With just 4 minutes left on the clock Yeovil added a fourth to their total as a fine team move culminated in a fine finish from Finlay Skiverton.

Yeovil made their final substitutions late on as Max Hunt was replaced by Korey Andrews and Adi Yussuf was replaced by Pedro Borges and Yeovil ran off worth winners of this tie.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 4-1 Bridgwater United

Although it was only a Somerset Cup game it was still an enjoyable evening at Huish Park and with the low cost of entry of just £5 it was certainly worthwhile. Yeovil now need to prepare for their upcoming away trip to Boreham Wood on Saturday where they will be hoping to get back to winning ways.
