Match Report: Yate Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town booked their place in the 2nd round of the FA Cup thanks to a 5-0 win over Southern League side Yate Town this afternoon. Yeovil stormed into a 3-0 lead inside the first 30 minutes as goals from Jack Robinson, Charlie Wakefield and an Dale Gorman penalty put Yeovil firmly in control. Adi Yussuf increased Yeovil's lead just after half time and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton grabbed Yeovil's fifth to wrap up a fine victory.

It was the first time in the entire 150 year history of the FA Cup that two teams beginning with Y faced each other - something that was made even more rare was that both teams were YTFC's!

Darren Sarll made one enforced change to the side that drew 0-0 with Solihull Moors last weekend as the suspended Max Hunt was replaced by Morgan Williams.

Yeovil lined up in their usual 4-4-2 formation with Dan Moss, Morgan Williams, Josh Staunton and Jack Robinson in front of Grant Smith. Dale Gorman, Matt Worthington, Jordan Barnett and Tom Knowles made up the midfield while Adi Yussuf and Charlie Wakefield lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Alex Bradley, Luke Wilkinson, Toby Stephens, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Joe Quigley.

Yate Town kicked off towards the away end.

Yeovil started the game very positively, winning a corner within the first minute but it was easily defended at the near post.

Shortly afterwards Yate won their first corner on the left hand side which was crossed to the near post and Yeovil struggled to clear the ball away but they eventually managed to get rid of the danger.

It didn't take long for Yeovil to take the lead as Yeovil won their second corner on 8 minutes after a shot from Tom Knowles had to be pushed over the bar. The corner was taken low to the edge of the box and Jack Robinson fired the ball at goal which beat Andrew Hannah in the Yate goal to put Yeovil 1-0 ahead.

Just six minutes later Yeovil doubled their advantage as Charlie Wakefield carved out an opportunity to shoot and his shot beat Andrew Hannah to give Yeovil a strong grip on the game.

The half continued with Yeovil being the far superior side and fully in control.

Yate won a corner on 25 minutes which was defended clear but Yeovil were awarded a foul in the build up.

Just before the half hour mark Yeovil were awarded a penalty as Andy Lewis fouled Matt Worthington in the box. Dale Gorman stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom left corner with Andrew Hannah diving the wrong way.

Yate's best opportunity of the game came on 33 minutes as David Sims-Burgess was put through on goal 1 on 1 with Adam Smith but he fired his effort way over the bar.

Shortly afterwards Yeovil almost made it 4-0 as Tom Knowles beat the offside trap but his effort just trickled wide of the target.

On 40 minutes Yate Town thought they had pulled a goal back via James Harding but the referee ruled the goal out as he had punched the ball into the net.

Half Time: Yate Town 0-3 Yeovil Town

Yeovil started the second half in the same tempo that they did in the first as they won a corner straight away which was defended at the near post.

On 48 minutes Yeovil found a fourth goal as Josh Staunton put an excellent low cross into the box and Adi Yussuf was there to tap the ball in.

On 53 minutes Yeovil made a double substitution as Morgan Williams was replaced by Luke Wilkinson and Jack Robinson was replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Yate Town also made their first substitution as Samuel Kamara was replaced by Oliver Mehew.

On 65 minutes Yate made a double substitution as Andy Lewis was replaced by Matthew Bower and Joe Tumelty was replaced by Joseph Hall.

Shortly afterwards Yeovil won a corner which was crossed into the center of the box but the keeper was able to punch the ball clear.

Yeovil managed to keep the ball alive though and won another corner on the left hand side which was crossed low to Sonny Blu Lo-Everton at the near post who turned and shot past Andrew Hannah for Yeovil's fifth of the afternoon.

Yate Town made another double substitution on 72 minutes as Will Tunnicliff was replaced by Mark Thuo and James Harding was replaced by Max Williams.

Yeovil also made a double substitution as Adi Yussuf was replaced by Joe Quigley and Matt Worthington was replaced by Alex Bradley.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 76 minutes as Dale Gorman was replaced by Toby Stephens.

The remainder of the game was very tame as the game was already far beyond Yate's reach and Yeovil ran off worthy of their 5-0 win to progress into the second round.

Full Time: Yate Town 0-5 Yeovil Town

FA Cup games against opposition in lower leagues can prove to be very difficult to win but Yeovil had no issues in dispatching Yate Town today. Yeovil rarely looked threatened all game and they took their chances well to make sure that they weren't the victims of an FA Cup upset this time around.

Yeovil's next game is on Wednesday night as they travel to face Larkhall Athletic in the Somerset Premier Cup. Kick off is at 7:45PM
