Match Report: Yeovil Town v Dover Athletic

Yeovil Town were held to a 1-1 draw with bottom side Dover Athletic at Huish Park this afternoon. The away side were ahead after just two minutes as a wind-assisted goal from TJ Bramble gave Dover the advantage but Yeovil found the equaliser in the 77th minute through Adi Yussuf.

Darren Sarll made one change to the team that beat Bromley 2-1 in midweek as Dale Gorman was back from suspension so Sonny Blu Lo-Everton dropped to the bench.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Jordan Barnett, Max Hunt, Luke Wilkinson and Dan Moss in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Josh Staunton and Dale Gorman made up the midfield while Charlie Wakefield, Tom Knowles and Adi Yussuf lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Morgan Williams, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Oliver Haste.

Dover kicked off towards the home terrace.

With just two minutes on the clock Dover took the lead as TJ Bramble put a tame cross into the box which appeared to be affected by the strong wind and curled past Grant Smith who did his best to keep the ball out of the net.

Two minutes later Yeovil won their first corner of the game on the right hand side which was crossed to the center of the box but it came to nothing.

The opening 10 minutes saw Yeovil struggle to assert themselves into the game. Dover were creating half chances and Yeovil were struggling to get forward. The windy conditions didn't help matters either but the early signs in the game were that Yeovil were going to struggle to get back into the match.

On 17 minutes Yeovil spurned a decent chance to pull the game level as Adi Yussuf was able to run at the Dover defence on the left hand side and put a good cross into the box but Charlie Wakefield was unable to make any contact at the far post.

On 20 minutes Yeovil won a free kick 25 yards from goal. Dale Gorman stepped up and shot at goal which was deflected wide for a corner on the right hand side. The corner was crossed into the center of the box but Josh Bexon was able to punch the ball clear.

On 30 minutes Dover won a free kick by the corner flag on the left hand side but they weren't able to take full advantage of it as Yeovil dealt with the danger.

Two minutes later Dover won a corner on the right hand side which was crossed to the center of the box but Yeovil were able to head the ball away.

1 minute of time was added on at the end of the half and Yeovil went in chasing the game at the break.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Dover Athletic

In the second half Yeovil had the wind behind them which they needed to use to their advantage.

On 47 minutes Yeovil won a free kick just outside the box and Dale Gorman forced a good save from Josh Bexon who had to palm the ball wide for a corner.

The corner kick was crossed to the center of the box and caused Dover a lot of problems with the ball being hooked off the line at the last moment.

On 51 minutes Dover won a succession of corners but eventually Yeovil were able to clear the danger.

Yeovil made a double substitution on 56 minutes as Max Hunt was replaced by Morgan Williams and Matt Worthington was replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

Yeovil were playing with a higher tempo in the second half but they were still finding it hard to create chances.

On 66 minutes Yeovil won a corner on the left hand side which was crossed to the near post but the keeper was able to punch the ball away.

With 20 minutes to go Yeovil were still not at their best and were being frustrated that they weren't playing anywhere near their best.

On 71 minutes Dover won a corner on the right hand side which came to nothing.

On 75 minutes Yeovil thought they had found the equaliser as Adi Yussuf stabbed the ball into the back of the net but he was in an offside position after not expecting the ball to fall to him.

Yeovil then made their final substitution as Dan Moss was replaced by Alex Bradley.

Just two minutes after Adi Yussuf had his goal chalked off he found the back of the net again and this time it stood. Jordan Barnett's effort was flicked on by Adi Yussuf to beat Josh Bexon and pull Town level with 13 minutes left to play.

Now that Yeovil had done the hard bit of finding the equaliser they upped the tempo even further in the final 13 minutes to try and find the winning goal.

Dover made their first substitution on 82 minutes as Alfie Pavey was replaced by Noah Carney.

Despite Yeovil upping the tempo they weren't able to create any further opportunities.

Five minutes of time was added on at the end of the half but Yeovil weren't able to find the winning goal.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Dover Athletic

It was a frustrating afternoon at Huish Park as Yeovil just weren't able to put in a match winning performance against the bottom club who haven't won a game yet. The windy conditions certainly played a part in Yeovil not being at their best but even so they weren't able to create enough chances to warrant winning the game. As much as the result is a bit disappointing it also needs to be put into perspective that we have won our last three in the league and we now stretch our unbeaten run in all competitions to 8 games so it's certainly not all bad!

Yeovil's season continues on Tuesday night as they make the trip to Wrexham. Kick off is at 7:45PM.
