Match Report: Eastleigh v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town were held to a 0-0 draw with Eastleigh at the Silverlake Stadium this afternoon in a dull game with very few chances for either side. Yeovil were the better side in the first half but couldn't threaten their opponents. Eastleigh improved in the second half but again they failed to threaten the Yeovil goal and in the end a 0-0 stalemate was the truest reflection of play.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that lost at Wealdstone in midweek. Matt Worthington and Jack Robinson were both dropped to the side and Reuben Reid dropped to the bench as Mark Little and Jordan Barnett regained their places in the starting lineup and loan signing Olufela Olomola marked his return to the club by slotting straight in.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Mark Little, Ben Barclay, Luke Wilkinson and Morgan Williams in front of Grant Smith. Josh Staunton, Dale Gorman and Jordan Barnett made up the midfield while Charlie Wakefield, Olufela Olomola and Tom Knowles lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Reuben Reid, Alex Bradley, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Adi Yussuf.

Eastleigh kicked off towards the seated end.

Yeovil made a bright start to the game and were looking the more lively of the two sides.

Eastleigh won the first corner on 6 minutes but it was defended at the far post.

Yeovil forced Eastleigh keeper Joe McDonnell into a save on 9 minutes as a shot from just outside the box from Tom Knowles had to be pushed over the bar. The resulting corner was headed away at the far post.

Yeovil continued to look the better side but nothing more than half chances came for Yeovil. Both sides had a number of corners but they couldn't capitalise on them.

Just before half time Olufela Olomola shot just over the bar after Dale Gorman fed the ball to him and the best chance of the half went begging.

1 minute of time was added on and the teams were level at the break.

Half Time: Eastleigh 0-0 Yeovil Town

Eastleigh improved in the second half but like Yeovil they couldn't create any decent opportunities.

Yeovil won a succession of corners on 48 minutes but they weren't able to make the most of them.

Shortly afterwards Yeovil won a free kick on the left hand side of the box which was crossed to the far post but again it was defended with ease.

Eastleigh made a double substitution on 60 minutes as Harry Pritchard and Danny Whitehall were replaced by Jake Hesketh and Tjay De Barr.

On 65 minutes Yeovil won a corner on the right hand side which was crossed to the far post and headed back across goal to Ben Barclay who headed the ball onto the crossbar.

Yeovil were starting to get back into the game again after struggling earlier on in the second half and many Yeovil fans predicted a 0-0 draw would be the outcome of the game.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 71 minutes as Olufela Olomola was replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

The game suddenly had some unexpected entertainment on 82 minutes after Yeovil broke away quickly and Charlie Wakefield produced a tame shot at goal. While the keeper had the ball in his hands a scuffle with Ryan Hill and Tom Knowles lead to a brawl between the two sets of players. Once the referees had discussed the matter Ryan Hill and Tom Knowles were both booked.

On 87 minutes Eastleigh and Yeovil made substitutions as Brett Pitman was replaced by Tyrone Barnett while Jordan Barnett was replaced by Adi Yussuf.

4 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil made their final substitution by replacing Tom Knowles with Alex Bradley.

Right at the end of the game Grant Smith produced a great save to deny Eastleigh from snatching the points and the game finished in a stalemate.

Full Time: Eastleigh 0-0 Yeovil Town

Both teams were not at their best today so a draw was certainly the right result. With Olufela Olomola returning to the club for his third loan spell it means we now have a different option up front which is an area of the pitch that we have needed to improve on but more importantly it is fresh legs in the squad which we desperately need at the moment.

Yeovil's season continues on Tuesday evening as we travel to Cheddar for a Somerset Premier Cup fixture. Kick off is at 7:45PM.
