Chris Hargreaves made two changes to the side that drew with Eastleigh in mid-week. Charlie Wakefield dropped to the bench as Chiori Johnson came in while Alex Fisher was dropped from the side and replaced by Gime Toure.
Yeovil opted for a 5-3-2 formation with Chiori Johnson, Owen Bevan, Josh Staunton, Ben Richards-Everton and Jamie Reckord in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Lawson D'Ath and Sam Pearson made up the midfield while Malachi Linton and Gime Toure lead the front line.
On the bench was Morgan Williams, Max Hunt, Jake Scrimshaw, Finley Craske and Charlie Wakefield.
Chesterfield kicked off towards the home end.
Yeovil couldn't have hoped for a better start to the game as they were ahead after just 3 minutes as Gime Toure capitalised on a defensive mistake and fired Yeovil into the lead.
Unfortunatley it didn't last long as five minutes later Chesterfield were level. Grant Smith gave away a needless foul on the right side and Yeovil couldn't deal with the danger once it was crossed in. Grant Smith parried the ball into the path of Jamie Grimes who had an easy finish to level.
Yeovil were playing some neat football during the first half but didn't create that much in front of goal. In terms of general play they were matching the opposition and it was hard to tell that one side was top of the league while the other was languishing near the bottom.
Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-1 Chesterfield
Neither side made changes at half time and Yeovil almost went ahead 2 minutes after the restart when a cross in from the right was almost turned in by a Chesterfield defender but it went out for a corner.
Yeovil and Chesterfield made their first substitutions on 66 minutes as Sam Pearson made way for Ollie Craske while Chesterfield replaced Calvin Miller with Jesurun Uchegbulam.
3 minutes later Chesterfield made their second substitution as Jack Clarke was replaced by Michael Gyasi.
With 20 minutes to go Yeovil were actually looking the better side and were putting Chesterfield under pressure and playing with fluency.
Yeovil made their second substitution on 75 minutes when Malachi Linton was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.
Yeovil's pressure on the Chesterfield's defence paid off in the 80th minute when a corner from the right was eventually bundled in by Josh Staunton.
Both sides made their final substitutions on 83 minutes as Chiori Johnson was replaced by Morgan Williams while Chesterfield replaced Liam Mandeville with George Cooper.
This time Yeovil's lead lasted 7 minutes before Chesterfield equalised when substitute Jesurun Uchegbulam fired home at the near post.
5 minutes of time was added on but neither side could find the winner.
Full Time: Yeovil Town 2-2 Chesterfield
The performance today was much better to that of recent games. Yeovil played very well and probably deserved to win the game but we need to learn how to hold onto a lead properly rather than trying to hold the ball in the corner from the 84th minute.
