Match Report: Yeovil Town v Solihull Moors

Yeovil Town claimed only their second win of the season this afternoon as they beat Solihull Moors 1-0 at Huish Park. Chiori Johnson's goal just before the hour mark was enough to seal the points in a game that was fairly comfortable throughout for the home side.

Chris Hargreaves made three changes to the side that drew with Dorking on Tuesday evening. Morgan Williams, Will Dawes and Max Hunt all dropped to the bench as Ben Richards-Everton, Sam Perry and Charlie Wakefield took their spots.

Yeovil opted for a 3-5-2 formation with Owen Bevan, Josh Staunton and Ben Richards-Everton in front of Grant Smith. Sam Pearson, Matt Worthington, Lawson D'Ath, Sam Perry and Chiori Johnson made up the middle while Charlie Wakefield and Malachi Linton lead the attack.

On the bench was Morgan Williams, Max Hunt, Alex Fisher, Jake Scrimshaw and Will Dawes.

The opening exchanges were scrappy and Yeovil almost fell behind after just two minutes when a goalmouth scramble saw Grant Smith block a close range shot which was then followed up with a shot wide of the post.

Two minutes later Yeovil had a good chance of their own when a good team move saw Charlie Wakefield feed the ball to Chiori Johnson on the left side but his shot was over the bar.

The game quietened down from there and no further chances were created until Solihull caught Yeovil on the break. Yeovil were awarded a free kick but it hit the wall and Solihull broke through with Andrew Dallas being one-on-one with Grant Smith but Smith produced a brilliant save to keep it 0-0.

Neither side produced anything of note for the remainder of the half and the teams went in level at the break.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Solihull Moors

Neither side made changes at half time and the game continued with Yeovil playing well but struggling to create chances.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 52 minutes as Lawson D'Ath was replaced by Morgan Williams.

Five minutes later, and pretty much out of nowhere, Yeovil took the lead when Mat Worthington's effort was saved by Louie Moulden but Chiori Johnson was there to fire the rebound home.

Yeovil made their second and final substitution on 72 minutes when Malachi Linton was replaced by Alex Fisher.

Yeovil came very close to adding a second goal soon after when a deflected shot across goal from Alex Fisher was just out of reach of the on-rushing Charlie Wakefield but Morgan Williams was able to get a shot on goal which was well blocked by a defender.

Solihull made their first substitution on 77 minutes when Callum Maycock was replaced by Alex Reid.

The final 10 minutes were reasonably comfortable for Yeovil, despite the narrow advantage Solihull didn't look particularly threatening.

6 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil were able to see the game out for their second win of the season.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Solihull Moors

The relief felt at full time showed just how important holding onto this lead was. Too many times already this season Yeovil have surrendered winning positions to take a draw but this time Yeovil handled the game well and deserved the win. Hopefully this means that we can push on from here and start climbing the table away from danger.
