Match Report: Yeovil Town v Eastbourne Borough

Another five goal thriller saw Yeovil Town 3-2 winners once again yesterday afternoon as they overcame Eastbourne Borough at Huish Park. Town went ahead on 13 minutes when Frank Nouble headed in from a corner but Eastbourne turned it around with two goals in two minutes. In first half injury time Nouble levelled the game with a lob over the keeper and Town regained the lead with 20 minutes to go through Josh Owers which proved to be the decisive goal.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that beat Weston-super-Mare on Tuesday evening. Jamie Sendles-White was dropped and Rhys Murphy dropped to the bench as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Zac Bell regained their places.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Josh Staunton and Zac Bell in front of Joe Day. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Morgan Williams and Josh Owers were in midfield while Matt Worthington and Jordan Young were sat in behind Frank Nouble up front.

On the bench was Jordan Stevens, Jake Hyde, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Charlie Cooper and Rhys Murphy.

Eastbourne kicked off towards the home end.

It was a fairly quiet opening 10 minutes with the only chance coming on 8 minutes for Eastbourne. They were awarded a very dubious free kick right on the edge of the area and the kick was deflected off the wall and fell to an Eastbourne player who's close range effort was somehow parried away by Joe Day who then made another brilliant save moments later to deny Leone Gravata.

Five minutes later Town went ahead when a corner from the left was crossed to the near post where Frank Nouble rose highest to head it home.

Eastbourne made their first substitution on 19 minutes when Freddie Carter was replaced by Yaser Kasim.

A good chance for Eastbourne on 26 minutes was wasted when they broke through the Yeovil defence but Fletcher Holman put his effort wide.

The away side found their equaliser on 36 minutes when the Yeovil defence stood off and allowed Jack Paxman to shoot from the edge of the area which found the bottom corner.

Just two minutes later Eastbourne turned the game around when some absolutely dire defending capitalised on a loose ball in the box and turned it home.

In first half injury time Yeovil levelled the game in a very weird fashion as a long ball up the pitch found Frank Nouble on the right side who was able to lob the ball over the on-rushing Ben Dudzunksi and the ball eventually bounced into the back of the net.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 2-2 Eastbourne Borough

Yeovil made a double substitution at half time as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Zac Bell were replaced by Jake Hyde and Charlie Cooper.

The second half was fairly quiet with neither side looking very likely to score.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 65 minutes when Jordan Young was replaced by Jordan Stevens.

Out of nowhere, on 66 minutes, Town were ahead again when Josh Owers picked up the ball on the edge of the box and his curling shot found the far corner.

As time ticked away it would have been so nice to have found another goal to make it more comfortable. We had already seen the defence let in two poor goals and the closer to full time the game got it was far from comfortable.

Eastbourne wasted a golden chance on 83 minutes when a ball across the box found Decarrey Sheriff with only Joe Day to beat but his shot hit the post and went wide.

7 minutes of time was added on and Yeovil were able to hold on for the win.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 3-2 Eastbourne Borough

A good victory in the end but as we have seen so many times this season the defence can be very poor at times. Another three goals scored shows we don't have any problems finding the net but we will have to tighten up at the back and not concede goals in the manner that we did yesterday.

Our next fixture is on Saturday when Wessex League side AFC Stoneham visit Huish Park for an FA Cup 2nd Qualifying Round fixture. Kick off is at 3:00PM.
