Match Report: Yeovil Town v AFC Stoneham

The FA Cup campaign for Yeovil Town got underway yesterday afternoon and they brushed aside Wessex Premier League side AFC Stoneham 7-1 at Huish Park. Goals from Jordan Young and Jake Wannell gave Town a 2-0 lead at half time but Town were firing in the goals during the second half through Frank Nouble, Jordan Maguire-Drew and a Rhys Murphy hat trick to cap off an easy victory.

Mark Cooper made three changes to the side that beat Eastbourne last weekend. Morgan Williams was dropped while Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Zac Bell returned to the bench. New signing Michael Smith made his debut while Jordan Stevens and Charlie Cooper returned to the starting XI.

Town lined up in a 4-3-3 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Josh Staunton and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Charlie Cooper, Josh Owers and Matt Worthington were in midfield while Jordan Young and Jordan Stevens were sat in behind Frank Nouble up front.

On the bench was Will Buse, Jake Hyde, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Will Dawes, Zac Bell and Rhys Murphy.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

Town piled on the pressure early on and had it not been for Stoneham keeper Callum Lee making some outstanding saves Town would have easily been 2-0 up inside the opening 10 minutes.

The only time Yeovil were in any danger during the first half was on 13 minutes when a freekick for Stoneham was headed just wide.

Yeovil's early pressure was wavering as the half progressed but they got their first goal on 30 minutes when they were awarded a free kick on the edge of the area. Jordan Young stepped up to take the kick and curled the ball around the wall and into the net.

With just 3 minutes to go until half time Town doubled the lead when Jake Wannell headed in at the far post from a corner.

The change had an instant impact as Maguire-Drew made it 4-0 when a free kick taken by Jordan Young was passed to Maguire-Drew who saw his shot deflected into the net.

Yeovil then replaced Frank Nouble with Rhys Murphy.

Once again, the change had an almost instant impact as a cross into the box from Jordan Stevens was met my Murphy who's calm finish made it 5-0 to Town.

It only took 6 minutes for Murphy to grab his second as Murphy intercepted a pass to the keeper, took it round him and slotted the ball into the far corner from a tight angle.

On 72 minutes, Stoneham got a goal back when a ball through the defence was met by Tommy Barnes who took the ball past Joe Day and slotted it home.

Five minutes of time was added on and in the 94th minute Rhys Murphy got his hat trick when he once again rounded the keeper and slotted home.
