Match Report: Yeovil Town v Didcot Town

The FA Cup journey continued yesterday afternoon as a 2-0 win over Southern League side Didcot Town saw Yeovil Town progress to the 4th Qualifying Round. A penalty from Rhys Murphy and a cool finish from Frank Nouble put Town 2-0 up at half time and Didcot Town had no response.

Mark Cooper made three changes to the side that beat Hampton & Richmond Borough last week. Matt Worthington was suspended while Jordan Stevens and Alex Whittle were out through injury. Jordan Maguire-Drew, Josh Owers and Josh Staunton came in to replace them.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Josh Owers, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Charile Cooper, Jordan Young, Josh Staunton and Jordan Maguire-Drew were in the middle while Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy were up front.

On the bench was Will Buse, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Will Dawes, Zac Bell and Charlie Bateson.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

The game certainly wasn't a classic, and for large parts of the game very little happened.

The only thing of note to happen in the opening 20 minutes was that Yeovil were awarded a dubious penalty after Jordan Maguire-Drew was tripped in the box. It looked like he had already lost control of the ball before the player made contact but the referee pointed to the spot. Rhys Murphy stepped up and slotted the ball into the bottom corner.

Yeovil were in control of the game and were creating some half chances but on 44 minutes it was 2-0 when Frank Nouble was put through and his calm finish beat Leigh Bedwell.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 2-0 Didcot Town

The second half was a non-event, Yeovil were in control and limiting Didcot to half chances on the rare occasions when they threatened. Yeovil also struggled to create much themselves but they didn't really need to get out of 2nd gear.

Yeovil subbed Jordan Young and Michael Smith for Will Dawes and Zac Bell on 64 minutes and then Rhys Murphy for Sonny Blu Lo-Everton on 79 minutes.

Didcot's best effort at goal came on 89 minutes when a long shot from Jenson Wright just dipped too late with Joe Day beaten.

Five minutes of time was added on and Yeovil claimed a comfortable victory.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 2-0 Didcot Town

The draw for the next round is on Monday afternoon and the tie is likely to take place on Saturday 14th October. This will mean the Bath City fixture will be postponed.

Yeovil's next fixture is on Saturday when Aveley visit Huish Park. Kick off is at 3PM.
