Match Report: Yeovil Town v Braintree Town

It's now 10 wins in a row for Mark Cooper's Yeovil Town as they secured a 2-0 win over Braintree Town at Huish Park. Matt Worthington opened the scoring on 28 minutes with a superb lob over the keeper from just outside the box and Town capped of the win in injury time through substitute Jake Hyde.

Mark Cooper made three changes to the side that beat Weymouth in mid-week. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Will Dawes and Sonny Cox made the starting lineup as Josh Owers, Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy all dropped to the bench.

Yeovil opted for a 4-3-3 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Matt Worthington, Jordan Young and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton were midfield and Will Dawes and Jordan Stevens were sat just behind Sonny Cox up front.

On the bench was Jake Hyde, Josh Owers, Zac Bell, Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

The opening exchanges saw Braintree create some opportunities but each time Joe Day was able to make the saves.

Yeovil had a few chances of their own early on, most notably when some good play on the right side was crossed across goal but Sonny Cox couldn't quite get there.

The game was fairly scrappy, not helped by the weather conditions and it wasn't until the 30th minute for the deadlock to be broken. Braintree keeper Vincent Reyes came forward to the edge of the box to parry a cross away but it only went as far as Matt Worthington who lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net.

On 37 minutes Yeovil had another good chance when the ball flashed across the face of goal with Sonny Cox just unable to reach the ball.

Braintree made their first substitution on 38 minutes when Ben Watt was replaced by Tom Blackwell.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Braintree Town

The weather conditions got worse in the second half as an downpour of rain made the pitch begin to waterlog and Yeovil were finding it hard to adapt.

Yeovil made a double substitution on 60 minutes when Jordan Young and Sonny Cox were replaced by Jake Hyde and Frank Nouble.

There was very little to report on during the second half as neither side could create much. The closest the away side came to an equaliser was on 63 minutes when a Leon Davies curled a ball to the far post but two Braintree players were unable to make a connection.

Yeovil then made their final substitution on 64 minutes when Jordan Stevens was replaced by Josh Owers.

Braintree made their second substitution on 67 minutes when Shaq Coulthirst was replaced by Gianni Crichlow.

The final 20 minutes were all about who could manage the conditions the best. Yeovil were struggling but Braintree were also finding it hard to adapt as well. Thankfully the rain did stop on a few occasions as the pitch probably wouldn't have been able to absorb much more water.

Braintree made their final substitution on 88 minutes when Alfie Payne was replaced by Marvin Herschel.

Then, on 89 minutes Yeovil made the game safe when Frank Nouble found Sonny Blu Lo-Everton in the middle of the pitch and he fed the ball into Jake Hyde who was able to round the keeper and fire the ball home.
