Match Report: Yeovil Town v Dover Athletic

Yeovil Town made it 13 wins in a row as they beat Dover Athletic 2-0 at Huish Park. After a dull first half Yeovil took the lead through Sonny Cox on 58 minutes and he got the second on 77 minutes to give Town a comfortable but hard fought victory.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that beat Torquay United in midweek. Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy dropped to the bench as Jake Hyde and Will Dawes regained their places.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Will Dawes, Matt Worthington, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Jordan Young were in midfield while Sonny Cox and Jake Hyde were up front.

On the bench was Jordan Maguire-Drew, Josh Owers, Zac Bell, Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy.

The first half was fairly un-eventful. Dover were very hard to break down and Yeovil were trying their hardest to create openings but they had to be patient.

There was a lengthy break in play on 20 minutes when Peter Ojemen went down after a scuffle with Jordan Young and he eventually had to be stretchered off the pitch and taken to hospital. He was replaced by Charlie Naylor.

11 minutes were added at the end of the half and the closest Yeovil came to taking the lead came in first half injury time when Michael Smith forced a save out Billy Terrell and Sonny Cox saw his effort somehow saved as well.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Dover Athletic

Yeovil had to be patient during the second half to find they goal they needed and they almost got it on 55 minutes when a corner from Jordan Young found Jake Hyde but Sonny Blu Lo-Everton unfortunately got in the way of his effort and he deflected it over the bar from close range.

The goal Yeovil were looking for eventually came on 58 minutes when Will Dawes saw his shot parried away but Hyde was there to cut it back across goal for Cox to fire home.

Dover made their second substitution on 63 minutes when Zidan Sutherland was replaced by Luke Baptiste and five minutes later they replaced Nicke Dembele with Archie Hatcher.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 71 minutes when Jake Hyde was replaced by Rhys Murphy.

With 13 minutes remaining Yeovil doubled their lead when Sonny Cox grabbed his second after Will Dawes found Jake Wannell at the far post and poked it to Cox to finish superbly.

Yeovil were now in complete control and Dover were no threat at all, as they had been through the whole game if truth be told.

Yeovil replaced Michael Smith with Zac Bell on 89 minutes and after the three minutes of time was added Yeovil could celebrate their thirteenth win in a row!

Full Time: Yeovil Town 2-0 Dover Athletic

It was a hard fought victory today. Dover were hard to break down and they were sat very deep and defensively they were making it as hard as possible for us to break through. Eventually Yeovil's strength shone through in the end and once again we see the quality we have in the team to win games like this.

Our next fixture is on Tuesday when Farnborough visit Huish Park. Kick off is at 7:45PM.
