Match Report: Yeovil Town v Farnborough

Yeovil Town extended their club record winning streak to 14 games as they overcame Farnborough 4-2 at Huish Park last night. Goals from Rhys Murphy and Jordan Young put Town 2-0 up in the first half but Farnborough pulled one back just before half time. A freak free-kick from Jordan Young restored the two goal advantage and he completed his hat-trick on 90 minutes to make it 4-1. Farnborough were gifted a second goal due to a defensive mistake but it mattered little.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that beat Dover Athletic in mid-week. Alex Whittle was out through suspension while Jake Hyde dropped to the bench as Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy regained their starting places.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Will Dawes, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Sonny Cox, Matt Worthington, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Jordan Young were in midfield while Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy were up front.

On the bench was Jake Hyde, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Josh Owers, Zac Bell and Josh Staunton.

Yeovil started well and created some early chances. Jordan Young came close on 13 minutes when his effort was just over the bar and then Rhys Murphy saw a shot flash just wide of the post.

Farnborough were also playing well and looked to be one of the better teams we have played so far this season but on 20 minutes Yeovil were ahead. Some excellent build up play from Yeovil saw Rhys Murphy receive the ball in the box and he did well to hold off the defenders, turn and strike the ball into the net for 1-0.

Five minutes later Yeovil had to make their first substitution as Jake Wannell went off with an injury he picked up a few minutes earlier. He was replaced by Zac Bell.

Yeovil continued to play well and kept their foot on the pedal but they also had to be wary of Farnborough who were showing they could cause us a few problems too. Fortunately some wayward shooting and good defending saw Town keep them at bay.

On 41 minutes Jordan Young got his first goal of the night he was able to work his way through the Farnborough defenders and smash the ball home.

Right on half time Farnborough made it 2-1 when Michael Smith failed to deal with a ball forward and was dispossessed. Eventually Selim Saied was able to slot the ball home to make the second half more interesting.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 2-1 Farnborough

The game continued with both sides playing well and with just the one goal advantage the game was wide open.

On 57 minutes Yeovil were awarded a free kick on the wide right which Jordan Young stepped up to take. He put the ball towards the far post but the Farnborough defence weren't able to get a touch on it and it bounced just in front of goal and went in off the post.

Both sides made substitutions on 65 minutes when Yeovil replaced Rhys Murphy with Josh Owers and Farnborough replaced Reggie Young and Ricky Holmes with Connor Cullen and Taylor Maloney.

Yeovil then replaced Sonny Cox for Jake Hyde on 71 minutes and Farnborough replaced Michael Folivi with Connor Hall.

Farnborough came very close to making it 3-2 on 78 minutes when Connor Cullen smashed an effort against the crossbar and then Jordan Norville-Williams put the rebound wide.

The final 10 minutes were fairly comfortable for Yeovil and Jordan Young completed his hat trick on 90 minutes when he rounded Jack Turner and finished comfortably.

In the 92nd minute it was 4-2 when a defensive mistake saw Town give the ball straight to Connor Hall who fired into an empty net.
