Match Report: Torquay United v Yeovil Town

The winning streak came to an end at Plainmoor yesterday afternoon as a much-changed Yeovil Town side were beaten 2-1 by Torquay United in the FA Trophy. Dillon De Silva gave the home side the lead after just 2 minutes and early in the second half Callum Dolan got their second. An own goal in the 90th minute gave Town hope of forcing a penalty shoot out but Torquay held on to progress to the Third Round.

Mark Cooper made a total of seven changes to the side that beat Farnborough last Tuesday. Josh Staunton was given a start for the first time in 2 months and new loan signing Duncan Idehen also started. Zac Bell came in for Michael Smith while Josh Owers, Jordan Maguire-Drew and Jake Hyde also regained starting XI places.

Yeovil went for a 4-3-3 formation with Alex Whittle, Duncan Idehen, Josh Staunton and Zac Bell in front of Joe Day. Josh Owers, Jordan Maguire-Drew and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton were in midfield while Will Dawes and Jordan Young were on the wings behind Jake Hyde up front.

On the bench was Matt Worthington, Alex Fisher, Sonny Cox, Charlie Cooper, Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy.

Just two minutes had gone before the home side took the lead. Dillon De Silva found plenty of space on the left side and was able to slot the ball home with ease.

The game was not very exciting if truth be told, a lot of Yeovil fans weren't too bothered about the result today. The game wasn't anywhere near as exciting as the league match a few weeks ago and neither side were playing with as much passion.

The best chance Yeovil had during the first half was on 28 minutes when Will Dawes unleashed a shot at goal that had to be saved for a corner which was defended with ease.

The rest of the half passed without incident and the home side had a single goal advantage at half time.

Half Time: Torquay United 1-0 Yeovil Town

Neither side made changes at half time but Torquay doubled the advantage just four minutes after the restart. In similar fashion to the first goal, Torquay found loads of space as Callum Dolan was able to put a good shot past Joe Day and put Torquay firmly in control of the game.

Torquay made their first substitution straight after as they replaced Ryan Hanson with Asa Hall.

Yeovil had a chance of their own to pull one back on 58 minutes when Jordan Young made a good run on the left side which allowed Jordan Maguire-Drew to find some space but his effort was put over the bar.

Yeovil's first substitution came just after as Jordan Young was replaced by Sonny Cox and five minutes later Will Dawes made way for Frank Nouble.

On 66 minutes Torquay replaced Dylan Crowe with Archie Harris.

Both sides made their last substitutions shortly after as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Matt Worthington while Torquay replaced Dillon De Silva with Lewis Collins.

The last 20 minutes were fairly dull with Yeovil not looking likely to get back into the game.

It took until the 90th minute for the game to get interesting as an own goal gave Yeovil late hope. Jordan Maguire-Drew put a free kick to the far post but it was Archie Harris who headed it into his own net.

Six minutes of time was added on and Yeovil were pushing hard for an equaliser but Torquay held on to see the game out.

Full Time: Torquay United 2-1 Yeovil Town

The only disappointment was that the 14 match winning run has come to an end but other than that I personally don't mind exiting the FA Trophy. We weren't anywhere near our best today but that was entirely down to the sheer number of changes to the side and I can completely understand why the changes were made.

Our focus now turns to Tuesday night where we are back in league action at Chippenham Town. Kick off is at 7:45PM
