Match Report: Chippenham Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town claimed a point on the road last night as they were held to a 1-1 draw with Chippenham Town. Substitute Jake Hyde Yeovil ahead on 79 minutes but an freak own goal that came off Morgan Williams levelled the score.

Mark Cooper made six changes to the team that was defeated at Torquay United in the Trophy at the weekend. Jordan Young was suspended while Josh Owers and Zac Bell were dropped. Jake Hyde, Jordan Maguire-Drew and Josh Staunton dropped to the bench as Morgan Williams, Matt Worthington, Sonny Cox, Michael Smith, Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy returned to the starting lineup.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Alex Whittle, Duncan Idehen, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Will Dawes, Matt Worthington, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Sonny Cox were in midfield while Rhys Murphy and Frank Nouble were up front.

On the bench was Jake Hyde, Jordan Maguire-Drew, Alex Fisher, Charlie Cooper and Josh Staunton.

Yeovil kicked off towards the home end.

The first half was a fairly dull affair and Town were not at their best.

Rhys Murphy came close to opening the scoring on 12 minutes when a free kick on the edge of the area was pushed away for a corner which was defended.

On 19 minutes Yeovil had the ball in the net when Michael Smith was put through on goal by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and fired home but he was adjudged to have been offside.

Very little happened for the remainder of the half as Yeovil struggled to keep possession and get forward. We just didn't have our free flowing football that we have become used to and the game was quite scrappy.

Half Time: Chippenham Town 0-0 Yeovil Town

Chippenham almost took the lead straight after the kick off when Tom Mehew's shot flashed just wide of goal.

A few minutes later Yeovil had a decent chance to take the lead when Matt Worthington broke through one-on-one with Will Henry but his shot was straight to him.

Yeovil subbed Sonny Cox for Jordan Maguire-Drew on 62 minutes and Yeovil came close on a few occasions to scoring. Rhys Murphy had an effort well saved and Frank Nouble saw his header also saved from close range.

Yeovil made two substitutions on 71 minutes as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Jake Hyde and Will Dawes was replaced by Charlie Cooper.

It didn't take long for Hyde to get his goal when on 76 minutes Frank Nouble's cross was headed towards goal by Murphy but the ball was pushed into the path of Hyde who fired home.

The final 10 minutes were not pleasant viewing. Town were still struggling despite being a goal up and we needed a second goal to make the game safe.

Unfortunately the game was level on 89 minutes when a freak own goal was Yeovil's undoing. A cross to the far post was headed away by Duncan Idehen but it hit Morgan Williams and looped into the net.

Six minutes of time was added on and the game ended 1-1.

Full Time: Chippenham Town 1-1 Yeovil Town

Yeovil were nowhere near their best last night but they did have enough chances to win the game throughout the 90 minutes. In all fairness, a draw was the right result as I don't think either team deserved to win on the basis of the play.

Our next fixture is on Saturday afternoon when we travel to Welling United. Kick off is at 3:00PM
