Match Report: Welling United v Yeovil Town

The Glovers suffered their first league defeat since the 28th August yesterday afternoon as they were beaten 4-1 by Welling United at Park View Road. Jordan Young put Yeovil ahead after 16 minutes but Kain Adom levelled the game shortly after. Former Yeovil player Tristan Abrahams then got a second half hat-trick with goals in the 55th, 57th and 65th minute to give the home team a fully deserved victory.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that drew with Chippenham Town in midweek. Jake Wannell and Jordan Young returned to the starting XI as Dundan Idehen and Rhys Murphy dropped to the bench.

Yeovil went for a 4-4-2 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Will Dawes, Matt Worthington, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Jordan Young were in midfield while Frank Nouble and Sonny Cox were up front.

On the bench was Jordan Maguire-Drew, Alex Fisher, Charlie Cooper, Duncan Idehen and Rhys Murphy.

The game started fairly evenly. Welling had an early chance with from a corner that was saved by Joe Day and on 12 minutes Yeovil had a free kick from just outside the area that was over the bar.

With 16 minutes gone it was 1-0 Yeovil when Jordan Young ran through and shot past Javarn Patterson to put Town ahead.

The lead didn't last long though and on 23 minutes it was level again when Kain Adom's shot from the edge of the area curled into the net.

Welling were the side looking more lively for the remainder of the half. Yeovil were struggling to get forward and the half time whistle was a relief for Yeovil.

Half Time: Welling United 1-1 Yeovil Town

The hosts made a change early in the second half as they replaced Taylor Curran with Will Wood on 51 minutes.

Four minutes later they went ahead when Tristan Abrahams headed in his first of the afternoon from a cross on the right side.

It only took two minutes for him to grab his second and Welling's third when he was one-on-one with Joe Day and he slotted the ball past Day with ease.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 60 minutes when Sonny Cox was replaced by Rhys Murphy.

He almost made it 3-2 immediately after coming on when he had a good chance from close range but his poked effort was straight at the keeper.

On 65 minutes the game was won for Welling when Abrahams completed his hat-trick with a curling shot that Joe Day couldn't reach.

Yeovil then replaced Will Dawes with Alex Fisher on 67 minutes and then Matt Worthington with Charlie Cooper on 75.

The rest of the game was a non-event for Yeovil. They weren't able to get themselves back into the game with the scoreline being 4-1. The hosts had just been better than us all over the pitch and we got what we deserved from the game.

Full Time: Welling United 4-1 Yeovil Town

Not the result that we wanted nor did many of us see coming in truth. After Welling went 1-0 down they were the far better side and Yeovil just weren't up to the standards we have become to expect from them. Not a good day at the office but we must remain positive. We are still 8 points clear with a game in hand.

Our next fixture is next Sunday afternoon when we travel to League Two side Wrexham in the FA Cup. Kick off is at 3:45PM
