Match Report - Weston-Super-Mare v Yeovil Town

Yesterday evening saw Yeovil Town draw 2-2 with Southern League side Weston-Super-Mare at the Optima Stadium. Goals from Courtney Duffus and an un-named trialist were cancelled out by goals from Ben Griffith and a Dayle Grubb penalty.

Darren Sarll opted for a strong starting line-up with no trialists named in the Starting XI. Keeper Adam Smith had Carl Dickinson, Alex John, Josh Staunton and Dan Leadbitter in front of him while the midfield was made up of Jack Clarke, Albi Skendi, Lawson D'Ath and Jimmy Smith. Courtney Duffus and Rhys Murphy were the front men.

The game started off fairly evenly but as the half went on Yeovil started to show their class. The first real opportunity came on 15 minutes as a low cross into the box almost found Duffus but he was unable to make contact.

8 minutes later a good chance came for Albi Skendi but he dragged the shot wide after hitting it on the half-volley.

Moments later Yeovil went even closer as Rhys Murphy saw his shot hit the bar after the ball had fallen to him following a goalmouth scramble.

Weston did have chances though and just 2 minutes after Town had hid the bar they almost went ahead but the shot was cleared away on the goal line.

10 minutes before half time a golden chance game to Murphy but he was unable to make a decent connection and the chance had gone.

Half Time: Weston-Super-Mare 0-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil made a dream start to the second half as just two minutes into the half Courtney Duffus gave Yeovil the lead. He received the ball in the box and turned excellently and fired the ball into the bottom corner.

The lead didn't last long though as five minutes later a superb 30 yard shot hit the post and Ben Griffith was on had to fire in the rebound.

Yeovil then made a lot of substitutions which saw a mixture of trialists and academy players take to the field.

Yeovil took regained their lead on 62 minutes as a trialist received the ball in the box and unleashed a thunderous shot that the keeper was unable to stop despite being in a good position to make the save.

Once again the lead didn't last as 10 minutes later Yeovil gave away a penalty which Dayle Grubb stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to draw the match level again.

The rest of the game was fairly tame after that as neither team created any clear-cut chances and it ended all square in Weston-Super-Mare.
