Match Report: Yeovil Town v Bath City

Yeovil Town's first game of 2024 ended with victory over local rivals Bath City at Huish Park. Jordan Young put Yeovil ahead after just 13 minutes and Frank Nouble capped off the win 15 minutes from time to give Town a deserved win that puts them 10 points clear.

Mark Cooper made just one change to the team that beat Taunton Town 4-1 on Boxing Day. Will Dawes was out through injury so Rhys Murphy came in to replace him.

Yeovil opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Courtney Senior, Matt Worthington, Charlie Cooper and Jordan Young were in midfield while Frank Nouble and Rhys Murphy were up front.

On the bench was Jake Hyde, Dylan Morgan, Josh Owers, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Jay Foulston.

Little happened during the opening 10 minutes but Town took the lead on 13 minutes through Jordan Young. A good team move saw the ball played out wide to Michael Smith who ran down the wing and put a cross in which was met by Young and turned home.

From then on, the remainder of the half saw very little goalmouth action, with Town very comfortable on the ball and Bath offering no threat.

The closest the away side came to an equaliser was on 39 minutes when a free kick was headed at goal but Joe Day was able to push the ball over for a corner which Yeovil defended.

Two minutes of time was added on and Town went in ahead at the break.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Bath City

Bath made their first substitution on 50 minutes as they replaced Luke Russe with Cody Cooke.

The game was almost level on 55 minutes when a goalmouth scramble was somehow kept out and Yeovil just about cleared the ball at the last moment.

Bath made their second substitution on 59 minutes as they replaced Ewan Clarke with Oscar Thorne. Yeovil also made a substitution by replacing Courtney Senior with Jay Foulston.

On 67 minutes Yeovil replaced Rhys Muprhy with Sonny Blu Lo-Everton.

With 20 minutes to go Bath came very close to making it 1-1 when a free kick on the edge of the area was put just wide by Dan Hayfield.

Six minutes later, Yeovil doubled their lead when a corner from Alex Whittle was put back across goal by Jake Wannell and Frank Nouble was there to put the ball in from close range.

Immediately after the goal Yeovil replaced Jordan Young with new signing Dylan Morgan.

The game was now pretty much safe. Bath just weren't really able to trouble Yeovil and with a two goal cushion the game finished in a comfortable fashion.
