Match Report: Yeovil Town v Hemel Hempstead

Yeovil Town avenged their opening day defeat against Hemel Hempstead as they won the return fixture 2-0 at Huish Park this afternoon. A brace from returning loan signing Sam Pearson gave Town all three points to maintain their 13 point lead at the top of the table.

Mark Cooper made just one change to the team that beat Taunton Town back on the 10th. Courtney Senior's loan spell was over and in came Sam Pearson on loan for his second spell with the club.

Yeovil went for a 4-5-1 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Michael Smith in front of Joe Day. Matt Worthington and Charlie Cooper were just in front of the defenders while Jordan Young, Frank Nouble and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton were just behind Sam Pearson up front.

On the bench was Jake Hyde, Josh Owers, Will Dawes, Dylan Morgan and Jay Foulston.

Little happened during the opening exchanges and it took until the 27th minute for the first good chance to be created. Frank Nouble was put through on goal thanks to the Hemel defenders not switching on from a long ball by Joe Day but his effort was saved for a corner.

The corner was cleared but Yeovil kept it alive, put the ball back in and it eventually found Sam Pearson who fired it home for 1-0.

The only decent chance for Hemel came on 40 minutes when an effort from Chris Smith was saved by Joe Day but he was unable to keep hold of the ball. Tre Mitford wasn't able to take advantage of the loose ball and Yeovil cleared it away.]

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Hemel Hempstead

The away side had the brighter start to the second half but they didn't really trouble Yeovil that much.

Hemel made their first substitution on 60 minutes when Michael Folivi was replaced by Kaylen Hinds.

Eight minutes later Yeovil doubled the advantage with Sam Pearson's second of the afternoon. Alex Whittle's throw in found Sam Pearson who took it into the box and fired it in at the near post. The ball appeared to take a deflection but it was given to Pearson.

Straight after the goal Sam Pearson was replaced by Jake Hyde and Hemel replaced Myles Judd and Joe Re with Vladimir Paternoster and Bayley Brown.

The game was pretty comfortable from this point. A two goal advantage at home meant Hemel would struggle to pull themselves back into the game. As time ticked away Yeovil were doing well to manage the game and prevent Hemel from reducing the deficit.

Yeovil made their second change on 79 minutes as Jordan Young was replaced by Jay Foulston.

Yeovil almost went 3-0 up on 84 minutes when a free kick from the left side was played to Jake Hyde who's header at the near post was pushed onto the bar by Craig King and out for a corner.

With three minutes to go Yeovil replaced Charlie Cooper with Dylan Morgan.

The final few minutes were a bit bizarre, as Hemel suddenly woke up and were actually putting a lot of pressure on Yeovil. Even their keeper was going up for corners with three minutes of normal time plus injury time to play!

Five minutes of time was added on and after Hemel's brief surge of energy was over Yeovil saw the game out for their fifth victory in a row.
