Match Report: Yeovil Town v Slough Town

Yeovil Town restored their 13 point lead at the top of the National League South last night as they overcame Slough Town 3-1 at Huish Park. After a goal-less first half Matt Worthington put Yeovil ahead on 48 minutes and Jordan Young made it 2-0 six minutes later. Slough pulled one back with 20 minutes to go through Dan Bayliss but a penalty from Frank Nouble on 81 minutes sealed the win for Yeovil.

Mark Cooper made just one change to the side that drew at St Albans at the weekend. Michael Smith was out with a hamstring injury and Dylan Morgan came in to replace him.

Yeovil opted for a 4-5-1 formation with Alex Whittle, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Matt Worthington in front of Joe Day. Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Charlie Cooper were just in front of the defenders while Dylan Morgan, Frank Nouble and Jordan Young were sat in just behind Sam Pearson up front.

On the bench was Jamie Sendles-White, Josh Owers, Will Dawes, Jay Foulston and returning loan signing Olly Thomas.

The first half saw a lot of chances come Yeovil's way but they weren't able to capitalise. Dylan Morgan managed to get a decent shot away on 5 minutes but Dan Lincoln was equal to the effort and made the save.

Slough were able to cause Yeovil some trouble as well, they approached the game intending to give it a good go and they came close on 14 minutes when a free kick into the box was met by Temi Eweka who headed the ball onto the bar.

Yeovil saw a superb opportunity go begging on 19 minutes when Sam Pearson broke through and was one-on-one with Dan Lincoln. Pearson attempted to take the ball past the keeper but he was unable to and Lincoln gathered the ball at a crucial moment.

Just three minutes later Sam Pearson was through again after Dylan Morgan fed a nice ball into him but once again Dan Lincoln came out to gather the ball.

Slough had to make their first substitution on 33 minutes when Tyrese Dyce went off through injury. He was replaced by Munashe Sundire.

The rest of the half passed without incident. Neither side able to create any further chances and the game was level at the break.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-0 Slough Town

It only took three minutes of the second half for Yeovil to take the lead when Matt Worthington was able to turn the ball home from a cross in from Charlie Cooper.

Six minutes later it was 2-0. Jordan Young received the ball on the right and made a run into the box. He put a shot into the near post and Dan Lincoln was just not expecting a shot from Jordan Young at that moment and the ball beat him at the near post to double the lead.

At 2-0 Yeovil were in control but Slough certainly weren't out of the game yet. They were playing some neat football of their own and they had shown in the first half they could be a danger if Yeovil weren't careful.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 66 minutes as Dylan Morgan was replaced by Olly Thomas.

With 20 minutes left Slough pulled a goal back when Nathan Minhas played a superb ball into Dan Bayliss who produced a superb strike to beat Joe Day and make the final stages of the game very interesting.

Five minutes later Yeovil replaced Sam Pearson with Jay Foulston.

On 80 minutes Yeovil were awarded a penalty when a nice ball through from Olly Thomas to Jordan Young caused the Slough defenders all sorts of problems and Jenmal Prosper pulled Young down which the referee punished with a penalty. Frank Nouble stepped up and sent Dan Lincoln the wrong way to give Yeovil a much more comfortable lead.

Slough made their second substitution on 88 minutes as David Ogbonna was replaced by Eze Ebuzoeme and Yeovil made their last substitution in the first minute of injury time by replacing Charlie Cooper with Josh Owers.

Five minutes of time was added on and Yeovil claimed a well earned victory.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 3-1 Slough Town

It was certainly a very entertaining game last night. Slough were one of the better sides I've seen play this season and they were intent on giving us a good game. After we failed to take our chances in the first half it was a bit worrying that we might be punished again but all credit to the players who kept their heads and got the victory.

Our next fixture is on Saturday afternoon as we travel to FA Cup giantkillers Maidstone United. Kick off is at 3:00PM
