Match Report: Maidstone United v Yeovil Town

The 10 game unbeaten run came to an end yesterday afternoon as FA Cup giant killers Maidstone United beat Yeovil 2-1 at The Gallagher Stadium. The home side took a 2-0 lead inside the opening 20 minutes through Muhammadu Faal and Matt Rush. Town pulled a goal back with 15 minutes left through Dylan Morgan but they weren't able to find an equaliser and they left Kent empty handed.

Mark Cooper made two changes to the side that beat Slough on Tuesday evening. Josh Owers came in to replace the injured Charlie Cooper and Jay Foulston replaced Dylan Morgan who dropped to the bench.

Yeovil opted for a 5-4-1 formation with Alex Whittle, Jay Foulston, Jake Wannell, Morgan Williams and Matt Worthington in front of Joe Day. Jordan Young, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Josh Owers and Frank Nouble were in midfield while Sam Pearson was up front.

On the bench was Jordan Stevens, Dylan Morgan, Will Dawes, Alex Fisher and Olly Thomas.

Maidstone kicked off towards the large terrace.

Yeovil didn't get going in the first half and they fell behind after 13 minutes when Jake Wannell brought down Matt Rush on the edge of the penalty area. The ball was played to the back post where Rhys Greenidge played it to Muhammadu Faal who turned it home.

Yeovil's first opportunity came on 17 minutes when Frank Nouble did well to create a shooting chance which was pushed wide for a corner.

Three minutes later though Maidstone doubled the lead when Lamar Reynolds put the ball to the back post for Matt Rush to head in.

Yeovil struggled through the remainder of the half, unable to cause Maidstone any trouble and they went in at half time with a lot of work to do in the second half.

Half Time: Maidstone United 2-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil improved during the second half but they were still struggling to create chances.

Yeovil made their first substitution on 56 minutes when Josh Owers was replaced by Dylan Morgan and Maidstone replaced Jacob Berkely-Agyepong with Jephte Tanga six minutes later.

Yeovil then replaced Sam Pearson with Olly Thomas on 65 minutes and Maidstone replaced Muhammadu Faal with Manny Duku.

The game was fairly flat up until Dylan Morgan pulled one back for Yeovil on 76 minutes. Frank Nouble did well inside the box and played into Dylan Morgan who produced a fine finish to reduce the deficit. Maidstone replaced Liam Sole with Chi Ezennolim shortly after the goal.

Maidstone still posed a threat to us in the second half as Jephte Tanga had an effort well saved by Joe Day. Shortly after Reiss Greenidge had the ball in the net but it was ruled out for offside.

With two minutes to go Yeovil replaced Jordan Young with Alex Fisher and they were pushing hard for a late equaliser. The closest they came was in injury time when a shot from Jake Wannell deflected wide of Alex Fisher.

Full Time: Maidstone United 2-1 Yeovil Town

Maidstone were worthy of their victory yesterday. Yeovil were nowhere near their best and they got punished for it.

Unfortunately, the game was marred by the off the pitch issues involving some Yeovil and Maidstone supporters. Coins, bottles and pints were thrown at each other and some Yeovil fans even threw flares into the Maidstone crowd. Scenes like that do nothing but give Yeovil Town a bad name and one can only hope that the individuals involved are dealt with appropriately.

Our next fixture is on Saturday afternoon as we return to Kent to visit Tonbridge Angels. Kick off is at 3:00PM
