Match Report - Yeovil Town v Bath City

Yeovil Town claimed a 3-0 victory against fellow Somerset side Bath City at Huish Park tonight. Goals from Josh Staunton, Luke Wilkinson and Albi Skendi saw off the National League South side in a very professional performance from Town.

As has been the norm for the previous few pre-season games Darren Sarll named a strong starting XI with Adam Smith in goal and Daniel Leadbitter, Josh Staunton, Carl Dickinson and Luke Wilkinson in defence. The midfield was made up of Charlie Lee, Lawson D'Ath Albi Skendi, Jimmy Smith and Jack Clark while Courtney Duffus lead the attack.

It was the first game in front of a crowd at Huish Park since February when Yeovil defeated Wrexham 3-0. The match started fairly slowly for both sides in the opening 10 minutes as the teams settled into the game. Jimmy Smith almost gave Town the lead on 11 minutes as a good cross into the box from Carl Dickinson was met by Jimmy Smith but his header was well saved.

2 minutes later a good strike from the edge of the box from Lawson D'Ath following some nice build up play was high and wide of the target.

Despite having most of the play Yeovil were unable to carve out any further good opportunities after that and most of the first half was a tame affair.

Almost out of nowhere Josh Staunton gave Yeovil the lead on 35 minutes when a cross into the box eventually fell to Josh Staunton who slotted home from close range.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Bath City

The second half started perfectly for Town as 3 minutes after the re-start they doubled their advantage as an excellent strike from Luke Wilkinson from just inside the box found the back of the net for 2-0.

4 minutes later Bath created their first dangerous attack of the match but it was eventually halted for offside after it looked like they were almost certain to pull one back.

Town then made it 3-0 on 67 minutes as a shot from Albi Skendi found the bottom corner to give Town a very comfortable advantage going into the final 20 minutes of the game.

Yeovil continued to play some very neat football and were once again looking like a very organised side just like they did against Dorchester Town last week. Although they didn't create many further chances it was clear to see the team were playing with confidence and authority and weren't allowing their opponents any time on the ball.

The rest of the game passed with no real opportunaties for either side and Town were able to send their supporters home happy with the result.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 3-0 Bath City

Yeovil have just one more pre-season game left against an AFC Bournemouth side on Saturday before the season finally kicks off on Saturday 3rd October where Town face a long trip to Kings Lynn Town. At the moment it is looking very unlikely that supporters will be able to attend but Town fans will still be able to see this game anyway as BT Sport are broadcasting the game.
