Match Report - Aldershot Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town suffered their third straight defeat at the EBB Stadium tonight as Aldershot Town overcame The Glovers 2-0 in a game where Yeovil were controversially reduced to 10 men just before the hour mark. Second half goals from Chike Kandi and Harrison Panayioutou was enough to send Yeovil home empty handed as they couldn't find a way back into the game.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that was beaten 3-0 at Wrexham on Saturday. The injured Carl Dickinson was replaced by Alex Bradley while Charlie Lee and Emmanuel Sonupe regained their places in favour over Albi Skendi and Matt Worthington who is also out with an injury.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Josh Neufville, Billy Sass-Davies, Charlie Lee and Michael Kelly in front of Adam Smith. Tom Knowles, Emmanuel Sonupe, Alex Bradley and Chris Dagnall made up the midfield while Joe Quigley and Reuben Reid lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Toby Stephens, Lawson D'Ath, Adam Heaton and Jiah Medrano.

Aldershot kicked off towards the High Street End.

Yeovil made a bright start to the game and won the first corner just five minutes in on the left hand side. The cross was floated to the far post but Joe Quigley couldn't quite direct his header back across goal and his header went out for a goal kick.

Yeovil almost took the lead on 7 minutes as a nice bit of build up play between Reuben Reid and Tom Knowles allowed Tom Knowles to shoot but the shot was scooped clear on the line by Lewis Kinsella.

Aldershot were playing some neat football as well and were starting to be the more dangerous side. They were unlucky not to take the lead on 15 minutes as a low shot across goal from Craig Tanner from the right hand edge of the area beat Adam Smith but cannoned back off the post.

Yeovil won another corner on 21 minutes again on the left hand side. Michael Kelly floated a cross into the box but it was headed out off an Aldershot defender and out for a Yeovil throw on the other side.

Yeovil won their third corner again on the left hand side on 26 minutes. Michal Kelly delivered the ball into the box but it was eventually cleared away.

Aldershot had to make a substitution on 28 minutes as Josh Rees was forced off through injury a few minutes previously and was replaced by Joel Nouble.

Aldershot won their first corner on 29 minutes on the left hand side. Lewis Kinsella crossed it to the far post but it was defended clear. Aldershot won the ball back but the cross back into the box was caught by Adam Smith.

Aldershot won another corner shortly afterwards again on the left hand side. The corner was taken short and was defended well.

With half time approaching it was the home side who were in control of play. Yeovil struggled to get forward at times and had to do a lot of defending to keep Aldershot from getting shots away.

Five minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and the teams went in all square at the break.

Half Time: Aldershot Town 0-0 Yeovil Town

Yeovil won a corner early in the second half on the left hand side. Once again Michael Kelly took the corner and crossed it to the far post but the keeper caught the second effort to get it back into the danger area.

On 50 minutes Aldershot took the lead as a cross into the box from Craig Tanner on the right was met by Chike Kandi at the far post who's header from close range found the back of the net.

Aldershot deserved the lead in all fairness as they had the better of the first half but couldn't turn their good play into goals and now Yeovil had work to do to try and prevent them suffering three defeats in a row.

On 54 minutes Yeovil's evening suddenly got a lot harder as they found themselves down to ten men as Alex Bradley was shown a straight red card for a challenge on Harrison Panayioutou. The red card was pretty hard to justify as the challenge was not malicious at all and just seemed to be slightly mis-timed. A yellow card would have been much more fitting but instead Yeovil had to play over 30 minutes with a numerical disadvantage.

Aldershot won a corner on 65 minutes on the right hand side which was taken by Craig Tannera and was put into a dangerous area but Adam Smith was able to push the ball clear.

Yeovil made their first substitution shortly after as Emmanuel Sonupe was replaced by Lawson D'Ath.

With 20 minutes to go Yeovil still had a slim chance of getting something from the game. They needed to ensure Aldershot didn't increase their lead further and just stay in the game to try and nick something towards the end.

On 73 minutes Aldershot town made their final two substitutions as Craig Tanner was replaced by Kaylen Hinds and Chike Kandi was replaced by Mo Bettamer.

Aldershot won another corner on 79 minutes on the right hand side which was taken by Lewis Kinsella. His cross to the near post was easily defended away and Yeovil were awarded a free kick.

On 82 minutes Yeovil made their second substitution as Chris Dagnall was replaced by Toby Stephens.

Just after the substitution was made Aldershot made sure of the points as Joel Nouble laid the ball off to Harrison Panayioutou and his emphatic shot flew into the back of the net.

Aldershot had chances late on to make it three but Adam Smith made some good saves to keep the score down.

Two minutes of time was added on and Yeovil made the short trip back to Somerset empty handed.

Full Time: Aldershot Town 2-0 Yeovil Town

So another defeat for Yeovil which in all fairness was deserved as Yeovil didn't look particularly threatening tonight. The red card certainly didn't help matters but it was far from a boring game and Yeovil can hopefully get back to winning ways against Kings Lynn Town on Saturday.
