Match Report: Aldershot Town v Yeovil Town

Yeovil Town claimed their first win of the season this afternoon as a Joe Quigley brace was enough to see off Aldershot Town at The Recreation Ground. A superb strike after just 13 minutes put Yeovil ahead but a looping header from Corie Andrews drew the game level on 75 minutes. Yeovil restored their lead on 83 minutes as Joe Quigley converted from the penalty spot and Yeovil saw the game out for the win.

Darren Sarll made 2 changes to the side that was beaten 2-1 by Kings Lynn at the weekend. The suspended Matt Worthington was replaced by Sonny Blu Lo-Everton while Daniel Moss replaced Morgan Williams who dropped to the bench.

Yeovil lined up in what appeared to be a 4-5-1 formation with Daniel Moss, Like Wilkinson, Max Hunt and Jordan Barnett on front of Grant Smith. Dale Gorman, Tom Knowles, Charlie Wakefield, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton and Josh Staunton made up the midfield while Joe Quigley lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Morgan Williams, Toby Stephens and Adi Yussuf.

Both sides were playing some nice football in the opening exchanges but it was Yeovil who took the lead as Joe Quigley drove into the box and his low curling strike beat the keeper and into the back of the net off the post.

Yeovil continued to play with positivity and a good chance went begging on 17 minutes as Charlie Wakefield put a good ball across the box but nobody was running in on it.

On 22 minutes Aldershot won their first corner on the right hand side which was crossed into the center of the box but Yeovil were able to clear the ball away.

On the half hour mark Yeovil won a free kick right on the edge of the area on the right hand side. Jordan Barnett crossed the ball to the near post and Luke Wilkinson managed to get his head on it but the effort crashed off the crossbar.

Just one minute later Grant Smith was called into action as Jacob Berkeley-Agyepong was bearing down on goal 1 on 1 but Smith was able to make the save.

Two minutes later Aldershot had a corner on the left which was crossed to the far post but it was headed over the bar.

With 5 minutes to go to half time tempers flared as a hard challenge on Jordan Barnett lead to a bit of handbags which resulted in Josh Staunton and Tom Knowles being booked along with a number of Aldershot players.

6 minutes of time was added on at the end of the half and Yeovil went in at the break with a deserved 1-0 advantage.

Half Time: Aldershot Town 0-1 Yeovil Town

The pressure that Aldershot were applying was eventually turned into a goal as a looping header from Corie Andrews found the back of the net to level the game.

It wasn't long though before Yeovil was back in front as Yeovil was awarded a penalty as Luke Wilkinson was fouled in the box. Joe Quigley stepped up and fired the ball into the bottom right corner.

After that Yeovil looked the much better side again and almost increased their lead as a number of good chances were spurned.

Yeovil made their final substitution in the 90th minute as Charlie Wakefield was replaced by Morgan Williams.
