Match Report: Yeovil Town v Halifax Town

Yeovil Town finally ended their BT Sport hoodoo this evening as Yeovil saw off Halifax Town 1-0 at Huish Park. A Joe Quigley penalty on 14 minutes was enough to give Town their second win in a row and claim their first home win of the season.

Darren Sarll named an unchanged starting XI from the team that beat Aldershot Town on Monday and even named the same substitutions although today we were able to name five subs as Alex Bradley was named on the bench.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-5-1 formation with Jordan Barnett, Max Hunt, Luke Wilkinson and Daniel Moss in front of Grant Smith. Josh Staunton, Dale Gorman, Sonny Blu Lo-Everton, Charlie Wakefield and Tom Knowles made up the midfield while Joe Quigley lead the attack.

On the bench was Max Evans, Morgan Williams, Alex Bradley, Toby Stephens and Adi Yussuf.

Halifax kicked off towards the home terrace.

The game got off to a slow start as neither side were looking particularly dangerous.

Yeovil were given a golden opportunity to take the lead on 14 minutes as Tom Knowles was fouled in the box by Niall Maher. Joe Quigley stepped up and fired the ball straight down the middle with Sam Johnson diving to his right and Yeovil had an early lead.

On 20 minutes Halifax won their first corner on the game on the right hand side which was crossed to the center of the box but Grant Smith was able to punch the ball clear.

For the remainder of the half the game was fairly quiet. Yeovil were playing well but were struggling to create any clear cut chances while Halifax were finding it very difficult to break down our defence.

Halifax won their second corner on 43 minutes on the left hand side but Yeovil were able to clear the ball with ease.

With one minute to go until half time Yeovil almost doubled their lead as Dale Gorman found Charlie Wakefield running through but his effort was cleared off the line.

1 minute of time was added on and Yeovil went in at the break with a deserved lead.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Halifax Town

Halifax made the slightly start to the second half and won a corner on 49 minutes which was taken short and crossed into the box but came to nothing.

Three minutes later they won a free kick right on the edge of the penalty area and Grant Smith produced a fine save to keep Yeovil ahead.

Yeovil won their first corner of the match on 55 minutes on the left hand side. The ball was crossed to the far post and put out for another corner on the opposite side but this time Halifax cleared it away.

On 60 minutes Yeovil won another corner on the left which was crossed to the center of the box but came to nothing.

On 63 minutes Halifax won another corner but also made their first substitution before it was taken as Luke Summerfield was replaced by Kieran Green. The corner was taken short and crossed into the center but Grant Smith was able to catch the ball.

On 66 minutes Halifax made their second substitution as Tyrell Warren was replaced by Harvey Gilmore.

On 71 minutes Yeovil won a corner on the right hand side which was crossed into the center of the box but Sam Johnson was able to catch the ball.

On 73 minutes it was Halifax who had a corner on the left which was crossed to the center of the box but Yeovil were able to head the ball away.

On 81 minutes Yeovil won a free kick just to the right of the goal about 30 yards out but Dale Gorman's effort was straight at the keeper.

On 83 minutes Yeovil made their first substitution as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Adi Yussuf. Halifax made their final substitution as well as Billy Waters was replaced by Jamie Allen.

On 89 minutes Yeovil made their second and last substitution of the game as Tom Knowles was replaced by Alex Bradley.

5 minutes of time was added on and during stoppage time Halifax manager Pete Wild was sent off for arguing with the officials.

Yeovil were able to soak up any late pressure from Halifax and they ran out worthy winners.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 1-0 Halifax Town

A very good game for Yeovil this evening especially as we are still short of players at the moment. That we are picking up wins while the squad is a bit small can only be a good thing and hopefully we can only improve with new additions to the team. Once again Yeovil defended very well today as Halifax were struggling to break us down and didn't really threaten us all game.

Yeovil's next game is next Saturday as we make a long journey north to face Stockport County at Edgeley Park. Kick off is at 3PM
