Match Report: Yeovil Town v Notts County

Yeovil Town suffered a 2-0 defeat against Notts County at Huish Park this afternoon as a very poor performance left the supporters frustrated for the second time this week. Ruben Rodrigues opened the scoring on 16 minutes as his low shot went in off the post and with just 9 minutes left on the clock he added a second with a header at the back post.

Darren Sarll made three changes to the side that was held to a 0-0 draw with Maidenhead United on Tuesday. Matt Worthington and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton regained their places in the starting XI and new loan signing Dion Periera was put straight into the action. Mitch Rose, Charlie Wakefield and Ben Seymour all dropped to the bench.

Yeovil lined up in a 4-4-2 formation with Jack Robinson, Max Hunt, Josh Staunton and Daniel Moss in front of Grant Smith. Matt Worthington, Dale Gorman, Don Periera and Tom Knowles made up the midfield while Joe Quigley and Sonny Blu Lo-Everton lead the attack.

On the bench was Mitch Rose, Ben Seymour, Charlie Wakefield, Jordan Barnett and Adi Yussuf.

Notts County kicked off towards the home end.

The opening fifteen minutes were fairly non-eventful with neither side looking particularly dangerous until Ruben Rodrigues was allowed way too much time on the ball and his low shot found the bottom corner and in off the post to give County the lead.

Yeovil failed to respond to the setback and weren't playing very well at all. The defence was allowing Notts County to get past them far too easily and it was almost like they were scared to put a tackle in.

On 24 minutes Notts County almost doubled the advantage as Callum Roberts saw his effort blocked well by Grant Smith and Yeovil were just about able to clear their lines to prevent another goal for the away side.

One minute later Notts County won the first corner of the game but it came to nothing.

The rest of the half passed without incident and Yeovil went in at the break knowing that they must improve in the second half to have a chance at getting something from the game.

Half Time: Yeovil Town 0-1 Notts County

Yeovil made their first substitution at half time as Tom Knowles was replaced by Charlie Wakefield.

The second half was very similar to the first in that Yeovil were again playing poorly. Notts County were safe in the knowledge that we had struggled to create anything all game and the defence still looked shaky.

On 54 minutes Notts County won another corner but this time a foul was given after the ball had been crossed in.

On 55 minutes Yeovil made their second substitution as Sonny Blu Lo-Everton was replaced by Ben Seymour.

Two minutes later Yeovil won a free kick just to the left of the box which presented a good opportunity to get a cross in and test the Notts County defence but the ball was straight at Anthony Patterson who caught the ball with ease.

Notts County were pushing for a second goal and they almost got it on the hour mark as Callum Roberts went on a charging run on the right wing but his shot across goal flashed wide of the far post.

Notts County made their first substitution shortly after this as Adam Chicksen was replaced by Dion Kelly-Evans.

On 62 minutes Yeovil won another free kick in the same position as the previous one and this time the ball into the box was much better but the ball went out of play for a goal kick.

Yeovil made their final substitution on 65 minutes as Dale Gorman was replaced by Mitch Rose.

Yeovil continued to struggle in the game and didn't really look like they would be able to get back into the match at all.

Notts County made their second substitution on 81 minutes as Aaron Nemane was replaced by Kairo Mitchell. The game was made safe for the away side shortly after as Ruben Rodrigues grabbed his second goal with a close range header at the back post from a corner kick.

County made their final substitution on 88 minutes as Kyle Wootton was replaced by Ed Francis.

Five minutes of time was given at the end and Yeovil suffered their third defeat in 4 games which was met by a ring of boos by the home crowd.

Full Time: Yeovil Town 0-2 Notts County

That's now the second performance on the trot that Yeovil have put in a poor performance and Darren Sarll is going to have to address this pretty quickly to prevent a similar outcome in our next game which is on Tuesday evening. We offered nothing up front today which is also reflected by us not having a single shot on target until the 84th minute.

Our season continues on Tuesday evening as Altrincham make the trip to Somerset. Kick off is at 7:45PM.
